Tony Nelson was supposed to marry Melissa, the general's daughter but she finds an old friend and the two get married instead which finally gets us rid of Melissa after 4 painful episodes. I never really liked her character, she was controlling and her script-lines never made much sense. In a previous episode when she found Jeannie in the house she was furious and left and then she came back with her father like nothing happened. I consider Melissa's character a very flat one with an uninteresting personality and it seemed to be the same for the screenwriters since she and her friend get married in what seems to be a rush after not having seen each other for so many years.

Good Riddance! More room for Jeannie.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Jeannie pops out of the cake, she is wearing the same costume from the wedding scenes in "My Hero?", yet her hair is styled without her ponytail.

    • After extinguishing Jeannie's stovetop disaster, Tony never turns the gas burners off.

    • In the second episode, "My Hero?" Tony never mentions that he can't marry Jeannie because he's already engaged. His engagement to Melissa appears to continue from the pilot until this episode.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Tony: You must be a mind-reader.
Jeannie: Oh, no, no. I cannot read minds, Master. Oh, but I have a friend, Nostradamus, who does a marvelous job of...
      Tony: I bet you do.

    • Tony: (Jeannie opens the front door, and stands against one side of it, while Roger stands on the other side, looking at Tony; hissing to Jeannie) Get out!! (she vanishes)
Roger: (somewhat confused) I just got here!

    • Dr. Bellows: You know, in all the years I've been practicing psychiatry, you're the most interesting person I've ever met.
      Tony: Oh, thank you, sir.
Dr. Bellows: Oh, I-I was speaking clinically.
Tony: What do you find so interesting about me?
Dr. Bellows: Well, you don't fit into any known category. One minute you're calm, the next, you're hysterical. You can pass the most difficult test the Air Force has devised, and yet, you hear voices. You're a top scientist, and you suffer from delusions. You don't call that interesting? I can't wait to put you in a book.

    • Tony A million bottles on the beach, and I had to pick hers.

    • Tony: Uh, you do read, don't you?
Jeannie: (nods) Mm-mm. Right to left, left to right, top to bottom, or bottom to top.
Tony: Hm. Uh, left to right, top to bottom.

    • Jeannie: (referring to Melissa, Tony's fiancée) Her vibrations are all wrong for you.
Tony: Oh. That's funny. I kinda like the way she vibrates.

  • NOTES (4)

    • This episode is also known as "Jeannie and the Marriage Caper".

    • According to the first draft script for this episode, at the bachelor party, Jeannie was supposed to emerge from the prop cake and dance. However, because Barbara Eden was almost six months pregnant at the time the episode was filmed, she could hardly climb out of the cake on her own (it took a few
extra pairs of strong hands to lift her out), so the dancing sequence was scuttled.

    • This is the final appearance of Melissa and her father.

    • During the narration and after the opening credits, the home of Samantha and Darrin Stephens of "Bewitched" is seen on the left, behind the mailbox, and above the caption that reads "COCOA BEACH FLORIDA."
