Episode Summary

Onboard a yacht for an important meeting, Tony is followed by Jeannie. With witnesses around Tony argues with Jeannie and tells her to go home. When she does disappear, they think Tony has killed her (since she can't be found) and put him in jail.

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Lots of life and funny, the early episodes of the series are often pretty good.

Tony is implicated in apparently pushing Jeannie overboard.

The first season of "I Dream of Jeannie" is actually very under-rated, there are lots of episodes without the "Dr. Bellows is going insane" theme, many with clever and funny plots, lots of military details, and a lot of pretty fresh and lively romance.

This is one of them, the story is fairly novel, a powerful civilian and his amorous duaghter want to lure Tony away from NASA and into the family business, and Jeannie uses her powers to seemingly make the situation "go away" - much to Tony's detriment. The situations aboard the yacht have some sexual tension, there is good back-and-forth, and the set-ups have some maturity. The black-and-white episodes also have the most charming smoke effects for Jeannie, in this case leading to one of the more hilarious scenarios of the series - Tony suctioning up Jeannie with his vacuum cleaner.

I'd recommend the first twenty or so installments of this series to all those who think it settled into formula and was uninteresting. Of course, it may be that the best storylines were used up early.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • This episode has a mixture of uniforms - blue for the main characters (olive for Roger), and khaki for all of the background characters at NASA.

    • Plot hole: Tony shows everybody that Jeannie is alive and well -- and inside his jail cell. So in addition to explaining what happened to her on the yacht, he should now have to explain how she got into the locked cell. He should have had her waiting on the other side of the bars instead.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Tony: Good morning, Jeannie. You hungry?
      Jeannie: Mm, yes.
Tony: Help yourself to anything you like.
(Jeannie giggles and puts her arms around his neck)
Tony: I – I'm not on the menu. Try the sausage, huh?

    • (Tony introduces Nina Ferguson, also the namesake of the yacht they're on)
Tony: Captain Roger Healey, this is Nina.
Roger: Wow! If you're the Nina, I'd love to see what the Pinta and the Santa Maria look like.

    • Gen. Fletcher: (General Fletcher is trying to make Tony understand why he has to escort P.J. Ferguson and his "family" around the base) And they specifically requested a bright young astronaut for the tour! You ARE a "bright young astronaut", are you not, Captain?
Tony: I always thought I was, sir, until I volunteered for this assignment!

    • Roger: (Roger is in Tony's house, talking to the wall near the fireplace when Dr. Bellows walks in) Just for Tony's sake, have a heart! Be a...be a pal, just this once....
      Dr. Bellows: Captain Healey!
      Roger: Yes, sir...
Dr. Bellows: What were you doing?
Roger: I was talking to the wall, Sir.
Dr. Bellows: Might I ask why?
Roger: Yes, sir! Uh, Tony asked me to! I know this sounds wild, Sir, but you see, houses get to be your friends, like dogs. And Tony wanted to the walls to know he was in trouble!
Dr. Bellows: He wanted the walls to know he was in trouble...?
Roger: This wall's a particular friend of his!

    • Tony: (Tony uses Roger, to alarm Jeannie, without let him know it) I want you go in the living room. I want you to talk to the walls.
Roger: Is there anything particular you want me to say to them?
Tony: Say, "Tony is in trouble; Tony needs you"
Roger: Any particular wall you're close too?
Tony: Yeah, yeah. Try the wall nearest the fireplace.
Roger: The wall near the fire place. Nice, warm wall. That's good.
Tony: Oh…oh (it came into his mind, that Jeannie might be near the vacuum, where he locked her recently) and have a word with my vacuum cleaner too. It's in the closet.
Roger: I wouldn't leave without saying hello to your vacuum cleaner.

    • Ferguson: Tony, have you ever thought of what you're going to be doing twenty years from today?
Tony: Probably flying economy tours to Mars.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Sandra Gould appears in this episode as Mrs. Flaherty, Tony's cleaning woman. Gould would join Screen Gems' competing magical show Bewitched the following season as Gladys Kravitz after Alice Pearce, the original actress in the role, passed away.
