  • Finally a down to earth, realistic show on how to remodel your kitchen. It shows budget friendly ideas and gives good information on how best to layout a kitchen so it can be used efficiently.moreless

This is another renovation show but with a twist. It shows normal people in normal houses, not McMansions, redoing their kitchens with the assistance of James Young. The most surprising part of this show is you do not see Mr. Young or homeowners swinging sledge hammers wildly around the room. In fact they generally try to keep things that are in good condition and repurpose them. I like this idea much better than seeing good cabinetry destroyed simply because a homeowner doesn't like it. You will not see large slabs of expensive granite on countertops or other expensive fittings. Instead it seems to be geared more towards a realistic budget for most people. James Young has excellent taste but he does not push his preferences off on the homeowner. They have a very large say in what is put into their kitchen. They also have the opportunity to show why they hate their kitchen and why it doesn't work for them. Most of the time the layout of the kitchen is poor or it is severely out of date with dishwashers that are not built in or refrigerators that stick out from the cabinets. The homeowners on the shows I've watched are likable people who seem to really appreciate everything that is done to improve their kitchen. James Young is also very likable. This show will give you a lot of good ideas that you can use in your own kitchen and it is fast becoming one of my favorite shows on the DIY Network.moreless
