  • It wasn't always a good idea to use a radio script.

    7.1
This episode was based on an old radio script for My Favorite Husband. Three years into I Love Lucy, however, the characters had taken a very clear form, which makes it difficult to just force an existing script on them.

Lucy and Ethel complain about their husbands' dress sense, protesting when Ricky and Fred want to go the movies in their comfortable but ratty clothes. Ricky has just been doing some chores around the house in paint splattered jeans. What? This is where the story falls apart. We have to believe that Ricky Ricardo, a clothes horse in all the other episodes, likes to be a slob? Perhaps George Cooper did, but not our latino gentleman. Once you understand this, it becomes difficult to enjoy the rest of the rather stale plot. The only remarkable moment for me was the ending. When Ethel discovers that Lucy goofed again and made a fool of them both, she loses it and starts hitting Lucy. Can't remember ever seeing that before.moreless
