    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (4)

      • This isn't the only episode where Ricky goofs when translating for Lucy and his Spanish-speaking guests. He gets his translation wires crossed in the fourth season episode, "Lucy's Mother-In-Law."

      • In the scene where Ricky is instructing the band how he wants the music played, you can hear what seems to be a child crying.

      • In the last scene where Lucy runs amok at the Tropicana, she takes a tray from the waiter. The waiter continues to walk off-camera. Why doesn't he react?

      • At one point when Ricky is translating for Lucy and his old friends, he accidentally repeats some words in English that he was supposed to translate to Spanish. It was a goof, and he started laughing, but it was left in since he recovered quickly.

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Fred" (pretending to be a cabbie) Did you call a cab, lady?
        Lucy: Yes, I did.
Fred: I'd have been here sooner, but uh, traffic was again' me.
        Renita: Goodbye, Mrs. Mertz.
Lucy: Now cabbie, I want you to take very good care of this little lady. I want you to take her to the Tropicana club.
Fred: Don't you worry, lady. I know a shortcut through, uh, P'iladelp'ia.

      • Ethel: ¿Cómo está? (Renita babbles in Spanish) Oui.

      • Lucy: Well, it seems that when this girl, Renita, was a child, she and Ricky used to dance together. She was much younger than he was.
        Ethel: Yeah? What happened?
Lucy: So somehow she caught up with him.

      • (After Lucy sees Renita)
Lucy: Ricky, I think you're right dear, about not doing that dance.
Ricky: Oh no, honey. I think you're right. I think I oughta do it. As you said, I think it would help the 'good neighbor' policy.
Lucy: Well, that policy just lapsed.

      • Ethel: You don't know the steps.
Lucy: Listen - a rhumba is a rhumba. You just wiggle your hips and jump up and down.

      • Lucy: Well, it seems that when this girl, Renata, was a child, she and Ricky used to dance together. She was much younger than he was.
        Ethel: So what happened?

      • Carlos: We doughnut.
Lucy: We doughnut? It sounds like someplace in Arkansas.
        Carlos: We doughnut speak English.
