Most "I Love Lucy" episodes center around crazy plans thought up by Lucy, but in this one she is actually the sane person in the room. Ricky has forgotten his wedding date and needs to go to extraordinary lengths to be reminded of it before Lucy finds out. The success of the first act depends entirely on the talent of Desi Arnaz. Lo and behold, he does it beautifully, showing great comedy timing and an ability to do physical humour.

In the second act he has to make up for his mistake and the story falls relatively flat then. Another conflict that is solved by a song?moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • It is interesting to note that Lucy and Ricky's wedding anniversary is never the same. In this episode, Ricky tells Lucy that their anniversary is on the 7th. But in episode #36, "The Anniversary Present," when Lucy tries to remind him of their anniversary, Lucy circles the 19th (or something like that) on the calendar.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Ricky: (on the phone with Western Union) Ricardo y de Acha. (pause) Acha! Acha! (pause) Thank you, but I'm not sneezing.

    • Ricky: Fred, you remember?
Fred: How 'bout May the 3rd? That date sticks in my mind for some reason. (thinking) No, no, no. That's the day I fell down and broke my leg. Or was that the day I got the gout?
Ethel: Fred, for your information, May the 3rd is our wedding anniversary!
Fred: Well, I knew it was tied in to some painful memory.

    • Ricky: (asking the date of his anniversary) Ethel, when is it?
      Ethel: I don't know.
Ricky: What do you mean 'you don't know'? You were there at our anniversary party last year.
      Ethel: So were you!

    • Ricky: You know what they ought to do? They ought to declare a national holiday and let everybody celebrate their anniversary on the same day.
Fred: Yeah, how about April 1st?

    • Ricky: No hablo Inglés.
Lucy: You hablo plenty of Inglés. So you better start habloing right now.

    • (Ricky is mumbling in Spanish.)
Lucy: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Spanish names won't hurt me!
