  • Quotes

    • Supervisor: If one piece of candy passes you, and goes into the packing room unwrapped...(looks at Lucy and Ethel)...you're fired.
      Lucy and Ethel: Yes, ma'am.
      Supervisor: LET ER' ROLL!!!!!!!!
(she leaves the room, and pieces of chocolate start coming out on the conveyor belt, Lucy and Ethel start wrapping the candy with no problem)
      Lucy: Hey, this is easy.
Ethel: Yeah, we can handle this okay.
(they wrap more candy, then some candy starts to pass them, and they grab it and put it on the side of the belt)
      Lucy: Ethel, I think.......
(they keep grabbing the candy, struggling to keep it from passing them, they even eat some of it, but Ethel let a few candies pass her, and after a while, the belt stops)
      Lucy: Quick, she's coming.
(they grab all the candy, and they stuff it in their mouths and in their hats, they do it just before the Supervisor enters the room)
Supervisor: Why, you girls are doing splendidly.(calls to the conveyor belt operator) SPEED IT UP A LITTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(she leaves, and candy come out on the conveyor belt at high speed, Lucy and Ethel grab and eat as much as they can, and Ethel tries to block the candy from continuing on through the belt)

    • Supervisor: Ricardo, I'm going to put you to work chocolate dipping. You say you've had experience.
Lucy: Oh yes, ma'am. Yes ma'am. I'm a dipper from way back.
      Supervisor: Yes?
Lucy: They used to call me "the big dipper."

    • Ricky: (holding up a blouse with an iron print scorched on it) Well, I thought I'd tell Lucy that this was an original new design.
      Fred: That story won't work.
      Ricky: No, eh? Why not?
Fred: Ethel has three blouses with that same design.

    • Ricky: How often is Ethel's checking account overdrawn?
      Fred: Never.
Ricky: Never?! How do you manage that?
Ethel: It's easy. I never had enough money at one time to open a checking account.

    • Ricky: I stopped by the bank on the way home and they showed me this. (holding up Lucy's cancelled check)
      Lucy: What's that?
Ricky: Your check to the beauty parlor.
Lucy: I write a check to the beauty parlor every month.
Ricky: Yes, I know that. But they don't always have a little note in the back like this one: "Dear teller. Be a lamb and don't put this through 'til next month." Now what do you got to say for yourself?
Lucy: That's why they call them tellers. They go around blabbing everything they know.

    • (at the employment agency)
Mr. Snodgrass: What do you do?
Lucy: What kind of jobs do you have open?
Mr. Snodgrass: Well, what do you do?
Lucy: What kind of jobs do you have open?
Mr. Snodgrass: What do you do?
Lucy: What kind of jobs do you have open?
Mr. Snodgrass: All right, you go first this time.
      Lucy: What do you do?
Mr. Snodgrass: What kind of jobs...CUT THAT OUT!!!

    • Ricky: What do you know about rice?
Fred: Well, I had it thrown at me on one of the darkest days of my life.

    • Ethel: We don't know how to do anything.

    • Supervisor: You girls are doing splendidly. Let's speed it (the conveyor belt) up a little!

    • The candy dipper, Amanda Milligan originally had lines in her scene with Lucille Ball but these were cut because of Milligan being uncomfortable talking on camera. Amanda Milligan was a real life candy dipper who worked at the Farmer's Market in Hollywood. At the time of this episode, she had never seen an episode of "I Love Lucy" before because she watched wrestling on Monday nights.
