The Ricardos and Mertzes are all running around wild with nerves as they get ready for Little Ricky's first recital. Lucy asks him if he's nervous, he says no, but doesn't even know what it means until Lucy explains it to him. Ricky cuts her off, he doesn't want her to scare the child. Off they go, each grabbing a piece of the drum sets and almost forget Little Ricky.
At the recital a couple of Lil Ricky's classmates peform and then he is introduced and he refuses to play, just as Lucy had explained it to him, he is nervous and has stage fright.
Three days pass and Lil Ricky hasn't touched his drums so Lucy sets them up in the living room hoping he'll see them and want to play. The plan doesn't work, he just ignores the drums. She talks to his music teacher who instructs her to make him perform as soon as possible in front of an audience to get him over his stage fright. She agrees, but how to talk the small boy into this is another problem altogether. Ricky even likes an idea that Lucy has for a change. Let Little Ricky and his band play at the club. Now they have to talk Little Ricky into it.
Ethel and Lucy both fail at getting the boy to change his mind and Fred is too chicken to try talking to him. It's up to Ricky. He goes and talks to Little Ricky and assures him that he has nothing to be worried about because even big Ricky gets nervous, but once the music starts, it's all fine. Finally the boy agrees.
Backstage at the club the little boys in the band are getting ready to go on stage. Lucy, Ethel and Fred almost slip and remind Little Ricky of his stage fright again but they save themselves. It all resurfaces when the music teacher announces that the band's ukulele player can't make it because he has measles. Little Ricky refuses to play without a ukulele!
Lucy assures him she will find him a ukulele player and sends him to the stage.
Ricky introduces "Ricky Ricard Jr and his Dixie Land Band". The curtain rises and Lil Ricky leads the band in a couple verses of "Has Anybody Seen My Gal" and just as promised, there is a ukulele player. Lucy is squeezed into the sick boy's small clothes playing her heart out on the ukulele.
