Little Ricky is watching Superman on television and there is a commercial announcing that Superman himself will be making an appearance at Macy's. After he is tucked into bed, the topic of his birthday party comes up, and Carolyn Appleby announces that she's having her son Stevie's party the same day as Little Ricky's. Both women try to convince the other to change the date, but Lucy keeps trying to win by saying which child was born first at what time, or on which weekday closest to Saturday.
The next morning Little Ricky asks if Superman can come to his birthday party but Lucy promises to take him to Macy's to see him if he's a good little boy. She then gets an idea . . . Ricky knew the actor (George Reeves) who plays Superman while he was making the movie in Hollywood and asks him to see if he can come to the party. Ricky thinks it's a longshot but he'll try. Lucy then dials Carolyn and announces that she just might get Superman to appear at the party. Carolyn thinks she'll have better entertainment and all the kids will want to go her party but Stevie overhears and would rather see Superman. Carolyn agrees to let Lucy have the party the following Saturday. Later Ricky tells Lucy he couldn't get Superman to appear because he had to fly to Terre Haute Indiana that day. A disappointed Lucy then gets an idea. She'll play the part herself. Ethel objects at first as Superman doesn't have red hair or a helmet to cover it, but if she only runs around for a few seconds the kids won't be able to tell the difference.
The day of the party arrives and Ethel is trying to show prospective tenants a vacant apartment. Lucy apparently told Fred she went to the market for more ice cream so no one knows whats up her sleeve. Lucy uses the window in the vacant apartment to climb out onto the outside ledge so she'll be able to pop in to her living room window. Ricky then announces to Fred that he got the real Superman to come as he didn't want to disappoint the kids. An unsuspecting Lucy inches her way over to the window, now covered with various pigeons. Ricky makes an announcement to the children that there is a surprise guest . . . Superman! Lucy is so happy that Little Ricky got his wish and tries to go back to the other window to go back to the party. But when she gets to the window where the husband and wife are still in the apartment, the wife sees something out the window and panics. The husband decides they should look for an apartment on a lower floor. Just then it starts to rain and before the couple leaves, they close the window and lock it, leaving Lucy stuck outside, still covered with pigeons. She then gets her cape stuck in the drainpipe. The party is over and Superman says he's sorry he missed Lucy. Ethel says she's out on the ledge and then Ricky flips. Ricky opens the window and sees Lucy stuck in the pouring rain. Furious, he demands to know whats going on. Superman jumps onto the ledge and gets her cape unstuck. Ricky shouts "of all the crazy things you've done in the 15 years that we've been married ..." Superman asks "You've been married to her for 15 years? And they call ME Superman!"
