  • Lucy manages to sneak her way into doing a commercial for Ricky's upcoming television show. She soon learns she got more than she bargained for.

It is very easy to see why "Lucy Does a TV Commercial" is considered the best episode of the entire series. I have seen it many times and I always end up laughing myself silly. The sequence of Lucy's rehearsals are absolutely perfect. Comedy gold to the Nth degree. The late Lucille Ball was so excellent during the rehearsal sequence that I almost forgot she was acting. The final scene of Lucy disrupting Ricky's performance was a great way to end this classic episode. If you are looking for guaranteed laughs every time, definitely see this excellent episode of this equally excellent series. Try to see the colorized version. It makes this episode even better.moreless
  • By far the best and most hilarious episode of I Love Lucy.

Title says it. The fact that the audio wasn't the best back in the sixties and how audio is on some videos of this episode makes Lucy SOUND like she's saying "spoon your way to HELL", LOL, but by the LOOKS of it, SHE IS!! That makes it even more hilarious.
  • In Lucy does a TV commercial Lucy finally gets into the act. After telling a girl that they already picked another one to do the commercial.

I like this episode because it leads the viewer to believe Lucy is actually drunk. I enjoyed watching a particular scene in which Lucy begins to do the spot just as Ricky comes down and asks to see the another girl.

I enjoy watching as Lucy gets ready to do the commercial live on television and scene Ricky's reaction.

  • Lucy is trying to break into show business again, this time she sees her chance when Ricky is doing a TV show and they need a girl to do a commercial.Lucy ends up wrangling her way into it,but the product contains 23% alcohol and she winds up getting tipsymoreless

This is still one of the absolutely funniest TV sit-com episodes ever, with Lucy trying to navigate her way through a commercial for a product with has a long name to begin with, but it also contains alcohol, and through the process of tasting it,starts getting tipsy, which adds to the difficulty of completely the commercial.Lucille Ball is just brillant in this episode. This is a great example of how she is able to take a simple job and makes it a vehicle for gut busting humor.Whats amazing about this particular scene is,I must have seen it at least 25 times, not counting times the scene has been shown in other shows, but each time it makes me laugh so hard my stomache really does hurt.Even though you know whats going to happen, you can still laugh. That is classic comedy at its best.moreless
  • Lucy manages to land a audition for a TV commercial for a liquid vitamin. What Lucy doesn't know is the liquid vitamin contains 23% alcohol, until several takes later.

This is my all time favorite episode of I Love Lucy.

Seeing Lucy try out for the Vitameatavegamin Liquid Vitamin commercial was just hilarious. After several takes she started to get a little woozy from the alcohol. Her slurring the lines & saying the wrong things was the best.

Here's the original line she was suppose to say.

"Hello friends, I'm your Vitameatavegamin girl.

Are you tired, rundown, lisless? Do you poop out at parties?

Are you un-popular? The answer to all your problems is in this little bottle. Vitameatavegamin contains, vitamins, meat, vegetables & minerals. Yes, with Vitameatavegamin you can spoon your way to health. All you do is take a table spoon after every meal. It's so tasty too! * Takes a spoon full* & *shows s nasty face* It's just like candy. So why don't you join the thousands of happy, happy people, and get a great big bottle of Vitameatavegamin tomorrow. That's Vita-Meat-A-Veg-A-Min".

And here are the lines she said after drinking too much of the Vitameatavegamin.

"Vitameatavegamin, Vitameatavegamin contains, vitamins, meat, vegitables & minerals. Uh! Yes with Vitameatavegamin you can spoon your way to health. All you have to do it take a spoon full after every meal. It's so tasty too, tast like candy. Honest! Hahaha! ha! So why don't you join the thousands of happy happy people and get a great big bottle of mitameatamigamin. Remember that name, mitamatameatymac".

    Then she tries again. Haha!

"Well I'm your vataminivigamack girl. Are you tired, rundown, lisless. Do you pop out at parties. Are you you unpoopular. Well are you? The answer to all your problems is in this lul bottle. Vitameatavegamin... That's it. Vitameatavegamin contains vitamins, meat, megitables, & venerals. *hick-up* So why don't you join the rest of the happy, happy people and get a very big bottle of uh? Ricky: Well, what do you know? Third-dimensional television.

  • NOTES (10)

    • Before Ricky's TV show starts, the show's director comes over the studio speaker, asking him to move back so he is in camera range. The actual studio system used to film the show is used, and the voice is most likely that of actual I Love Lucy director, Marc Daniels.

    • When Lucy comes back on to the set after a break and is drunk if you look at the area that she comes from you can see the Ricardo's fire place.

    • If you can take your eyes off of Lucy (I know it's nearly impossible) while she's rehearsing and look at the director, he's laughing hysterically.

    • Vitametavegimin is actually 23% alcohol. However, if you closely examine the labels on the bottles seen behind Lucy when she is rehearsing the commercial, they say Vitametavegamin is 11% alcohol. It was originally 11% in the script, but, changed to 23% on the spot because the higher percentage of alcohol sounded funnier.

    • This is Lucille Ball's all-time favorite episode.

    • TV Guide named this #1 on their list of the top 50 I Love Lucy episodes.

    • Vivian Vance isn't on this episode.

    • This episode is named as one of the "Most memorable scenes in television".

    • In order for Lucy to the scene the Apple Pectin had to taste good to her. In The I Lucy tour you get to try to see if you can do this scene.

    • The "vitametavegamin" that Lucy is forced to taste over and over again is, in actually, apple pectin.
