Goof: In the train, when Ricky, Ethel and Fred shout out the phrase: "Has she ever considered acting," you can see the Italian director liping the same line.
Lucy's speech about calla lilies comes from the movie Stage Door in which Lucille Ball starred. However, in the movie, the speech was performed by Katharine Hepburn.
The Ricardo's room number in this episode is #605.
The grapes stomped in this episode were grown in California rather than Italy.
Fred: (about Lucy's grape-stained appearance) Boy, when it comes to soaking up local color, you don't mess around.
Ethel: What am I going to tell Ricky when he asks where you are?
Lucy: Tell him anything you want. I've got nothing to hide. Tell him the truth.
Ethel: Okay I'll tell him the truth.
Lucy: Don't you dare.
Lucy: Gee did you hear that honey? It's going to be called "Bitter Grapes." I wonder what part they want me for.
Fred: You're probably going to be one of the bunch.
Ethel: Thirteen more hours in this sardine can.
Lucy: The sardines were better off. They got all that oil to wiggle around in.
(About Fred's cheap ways)
Ricky: I appreciate that, Fred, but you've got to draw the line someplace.
Ethel: Oh, we're lucky he hasn't got us hitchhiking.
Ethel: (talking about the train seat) Well it's true; they're not very roomy.
Fred: They're roomy enough, it's just that you're roomier.
Ethel: Oh, I don't think those Italian actresses are so much. Not one of them got her hair combed.
Fred: Well, they look great to me.
Ethel: If I let my hair go like that, you'd never let me hear the end of it.
Fred: Honeybunch, if the rest of you looked like that, I wouldn't care if you were bald.
Lucy: Ricky, do you like earthy women?
Ricky: What's earthy?
Lucy: (shows him the magazine) That...
Ricky: We don't call that earthy in Cuba.
Lucy: Oh, what do you call it?
Ricky: We have five words for it. Ai yi yi yi yi!
Water-based lilac coloring was used to turn Lucy's skin purple, due to the skin sensitivity of Lucille Ball.
The local California grape industry donated the grapes with the understanding that there was a mention that wine wasn't made by stomping grapes anymore. The crew took home all the extra fruit.
The wine vat scene was filmed as one long scene without cuts.
This is writer Bob Weiskopf's favorite episode.
Teresa Tirelli (Grape Stomper) did not speak English. Because of this Tirelli took the fight seriously and Lucille Ball almost drowned in the vat.
