  • Quotes

    • After a radio bulletin explains an escpaed hatchet murderess whose appearance describes Mrs. Grundy.
Lucy: Grey hair, creme colored convertible.
      Ethel: That's just a coincidence.
Lucy: But think, it all fits, likes to drive in the dark, won't stop at motels, uses back roads. Why do you suppose she uses back roads?
Ethel: She told us, to save time.
Lucy: Oh sure, she uses back roads to avoid the police.
Ethel: Oh Lucy, I don't believe you, the woman they're looking for is a hatchet murderess, she doesn't look like a...
      Ethel and Lucy: HATCHET!

    • Lucy: Ricky, look at this honey. For a great big boy who's going on a trip with his daddy, he has just got to have a wallet.
Little Ricky: Oh boy. Thanks. What's it for?
Lucy: (showing Little Ricky his new wallet) Well, honey, it's to keep things in like money and pictures and valuable things that you don't want to lose. See? It's just like Daddy's.
Ricky: Just like Daddy's, there won't be any money in it!

    • Ricky: Hey, look Ricky. Mommy bought you a bathing suit.
      Lucy: That's mine.
      Ricky: Yours?
Lucy: Relax. It stretches when it's on.
      Ricky: See that it does.

    • Ethel: Maybe some music will lull us to sleep.
Radio announcer: And now the latest bulletin on the Evelyn Holby case. Police report that Holby, famous gray haired hatchet murderess, has escaped from prison and is heading south in a creme colored convertible-coupe. Now back to our previous broadcast. (Lucy turns off the radio)
Ethel: What'd you turn it off for?
Lucy: Did you hear what he said?
      Ethel: Yeah.
Lucy: Which way are we heading.
      Ethel: South.
Lucy: Exactly. Grey hair, creme colored convertible.
Ethel: Oh Lucy, that's just a coincidence.
Ethel: Eh, uh...we're just jumping to conclusions, she brought the hatchet to uh...to uh..
Lucy: To WHAT!? Chop watercrest? Ethel that woman definately has the killer look about her. Come on, we've got to make a run for it.

    • (Lucy takes a bite of one of Mrs. Grundy's watercress sandwiches)
Lucy: Very tasty...if you like buttered grass. (Ethel reaches for Lucy's sandwich) I LOVE buttered grass.

    • (After Mrs. Grundy's car gets a flat tire, she decides to take a catnap, leaving Lucy and Ethel to change the tire.)
Mrs. Grundy: You'll find everything you need in the trunk.
Ethel: I hope we find a mechanic back there.

    • Lucy and Ethel look through items in the trunk in order to fix the flat tire.
Ethel: Hammer, tire, hatchet, what do you suppose she uses a hatchet for?
Lucy: (imitating Mrs. Grundy) Didn't I tell you to bring a hatchet?
