    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (4)

      • When Ricky returns home, the grandfather clock still says 12 noon because someone did not reset the clock.

      • The scene where Ricky is working with Lucy and Mertzes for their musical number is reminiscent of the episode, "Lucy's Club Dance," where Ricky has to endure some terrible musicianship!

      • Ethel states that she never learned to play "Sweet Sue" on the piano. In the episode "Breaking The Lease," the opening scene has the Ricardos and the Mertzes singing "Sweet Sue" together, with Ethel at the piano.

      • Goof: Lucy claims to only know how to perform "Sweet Sue" on her saxophone. Previous episodes state that she only knew how to play "Glow Worm". Ethel claims that the only song she knows how to play is "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain" by ear. In previous episodes Ethel knows how to read music and play other songs.

    • QUOTES (6)

      • (Lucy tells Ricky about her rehearsal with the Mertzes)
Lucy: What Ethel does to those ivories is enough to make an elephant want to take back its tusks!

      • Fred: Ethel plays by ear. The trouble is, we have to listen by ear.

      • Ethel: Oh, dear. Wait 'til they hear the bad news. They'll have to change their name to the Westport Hysterical Society.

      • Ethel: (holding up an egg) Look at the size of that one.
Lucy: That's nothing compared to the one I just laid with Ricky.
Ethel: Uh-oh. What happened to your "buttering up" plan?
Lucy: Well, Betty Ramsey spilled the whole thing before I even got my churn started.

      • Lucy: And do you know what we're having? It's one of your favorites. (sniffing) Smell that. What does it smell like?
Ricky: It smells like you want me and the band for that show.

      • (Lucy asks Ricky if he and his band will perform for the Westport Historical Society's show)
Lucy: Well, now that you know all about it, Ricky, will you?
        Ricky: No.
Lucy: And I spent two hours over a hot stove cooking chicken and rice.
Ricky: Well don't worry about that, honey. I'll eat it.
Lucy: But, Ricky, just tell me why.
Ricky: Because I love chicken and rice.
