Continuity Goof: Ethel receives a brand new washing machine in this episode that breaks 13 episodes later in "Never Do Business With Friends."
Lucy received a Handy Dandy Refrigerator in this episode while Ethel received a washing machine.
At the beginning of the episode, Lucy says that her Handy Dandy Kitchen Helper cost $7.98. Later, however, she says it cost $7.95
Ethel: What's the matter Lucy?
Lucy: Oh, it's that Cuban sorehead I'm married to. I just got my weekly lecture on spending too much money.
Ethel: Oh, what'd he say this time?
Lucy: Well I couldn't understand most of it, but what I got out of it was that Pesos don't grow on trees.
Lucy: I was kicked down stairs, bitten by a dog, and chased three blocks by a policeman who wanted to see my peddler's license. One more hour and they'd have reported the death of another salesman.
If you look very closely, the walls in Mrs. Simpson's apartment look very similar to the Ricardo's bedroom. This would appear plausible since their bedroom was not being featured in this episode.
This episode and the next one "The Inferiority Complex" opened with the announcer introducing the show and sponsor and Desi Arnaz coming from behind a curtain introducing the King-Size Philip Morris cigarettes and brings us into the episode.
Sheldon Leonard (Harry Martin) will later go on to produce and direct a number of Desilu Productions TV shows.
The song "There's a Brand New Baby at Our House" was written by Desi Arnaz and Eddie Maxwell to celebrate the birth of Lucie Arnaz in 1951. At this time it is sold on a record with the flip side being the "I Love Lucy" theme song.
This episode and the next five were filmed earlier in the season in order to give Lucille Ball some maternity leave. Flashback scenes were added so that the episodes would make sense.
Music performed on this episode included "Cielito Lindo" and "There's a Brand New Baby at Our House".
Ricky buys a refrigerator for Lucy, and Fred buys a washing machine for Ethel in this episode.
In recounting her experiences trying to sell her vacuum cleaner, Lucy says, "One more hour and they would've reported the death of another salesman." This is an allusion to the well-known play, "Death of a Salesman."
