  • Quotes

    • Fred: Maybe your business manager has got soft-hearted.
Ricky: Are you kiddin'? Mr. Hickox? He makes you look like Diamond Jim Brady!

    • Lucy: Mr. Hickox, I hope you don't have too much trouble figuring out my bookkeeping system. You know, I'm not exactly a CPA.
Mr. Hickox: I'm well aware of that, Mrs. Ricardo, well aware of that. But I've been in this business for 20 years and I've never had any trouble figuring out any books yet. (turning the book sideways, upside down, and right side up again) Congratulations! (shaking hands with Lucy)
      Lucy: What for?
Mr. Hickox: I finally found a set of books I can't figure out.

    • (Ricky decides to hire a business manager)
Ricky: I'll call him right now. (he stops) Or is there any point in me trying to use the telephone?
Lucy: Well, you can try it, but I think you'll have more luck with two cans and a string.

    • Ethel: Last night Fred found out that you'd only paid half the rent.
Lucy: Couldn't you have kept it from him?
Ethel: You just be happy he didn't find it was half of last month's rent!

    • Ethel: Lucy, I hate to be the one that wipes that smile off your face, but do you realize that at the end of the month you have got to pay that bill at the market?
Lucy: Oh no I don't; Mr. Hickox does. He's the one that arranged the credit.
      Ethel: But it's your money.
Lucy: But it's his responsability. He's the Business Manager, let him manage.

    • Lucy: (Talking on the phone to the grocer) Oh, yes, I know we're writing up quite a bill...'Four hundred and seventy three dollars'? Oh, well, don't worry about it, our business manager will take care of it at the end of the month. Yes, goodbye.

    • Ricky: Can't you get Ethel to tell you what's going on?
Fred: No, for once those big blabbery lips are sealed.

    • Business Manager: There we are. Now, you can spend the rest any way you want.
Lucy: The rest? There's just five dollars left.
Business Manager: (Nodding in agreement) Five dollars.
Lucy: Five dollars to buy food and have my hair dyed...done! Well, at least I have a choice. I can be a thin redhead or a fat brunette.

    • Lucy: (Going through her bills) Oh Ethel, my accounts are all messed up. These are 2nd and 3rd notices from every company in town. They've threatened to cut off everything but my oxygen supply.
