    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Lucy Ricardo is born in 1921 in West Jamestown, New York. However West Jamestown doesn't exist and Lucille Ball was born in 1911.

      • In the scene where Ricky and his pianist Marco Rizo rehearse in the Ricardo's apartment, Ricky begins drumming on the trunk with Lucy inside, upon finishing the song Marco says "I have to leave now Desi" using the actor's name and not the character's name.

    • QUOTES (13)

      • Dr. Peterson: I'm the doctor who brought your wife into the world.
Ricky: You are? I don't know whether to thank you or punch you in the nose.

      • (Lucy is stuck in the trunk.)
Ethel: Now you wait right there.
        Lucy: Yeah, I'll do that.

      • (Lucy wants to travel in the trunk.)
        Ethel: How could you breathe?
Lucy: There's a hole in it.
Ethel: Yes, and it matches the one in your head.

      • Sidney: Ever since we've been married she seems to be growing younger every day.
Lucy: I guess, it's the marriage that did it. You have no idea how much younger she's grown just since you've walked in the room.

      • Lucy: (to Helen) There have been color changes here and there and I am wearing better fitting bloomers.

      • (Fred enters in his old military uniform.)
Ethel: Fred, what are you doing in that?
Fred: I'm getting read to burst upon gay Paree.
Lucy: Well that's sure the outfit for it.
Fred: So it needs a little letting out here and there. Now don't make fun of us doughboys.
        Ethel: Doughboys!
Lucy: Whoever put the dough in that boy put too much yeast.
Ethel: It's a good thing the Kaiser didn't see you in that outfit, he never would've surrendered.

      • Lucy: Her first husband's name was Sears.
Ricky: You don't supposed her second husband's name could be...(thinks) No, I guess that's impossible.

      • Lucy: You don't know what it's like to be born a missing person.

      • Lucy: You know it and I know it. But as far as Jamestown is concerned, the stork just dropped me and didn't tell anybody.
Ricky: Look honey, why don't you call your mother and ask her?
Lucy: Waaa! I don't know where my mother is.
Ricky: The whole family is disappearing right in front of our eyes.

      • Lucy: They've never heard of me.
Fred: Maybe you were never born.
        Lucy: I was too!

      • Lucy: If I'd known Jamestown would be that careless, I would have been born somewhere else.

      • Fred: (Speaking about birth certificates) Show it to them, honey.
        Ethel: No!
Lucy: She doesn't want us to see the year.
Fred: Put your finger over the year. I thought they'd might like to see what Lincoln's signature looks like.

      • Ethel: (about the trunk) It's even got a hole in it.
Fred: I defy anyone to find that hole with the naked eye. (Ethel finds the hole) I said the naked eye, not two bony fingers.

    • NOTES (6)

      • During the filming of this episode Lucille Ball has a panic attack when she is locked in the trunk. She was a closet claustrophobic. When Lucy Ricardo almost faints after exiting the trunk, Ball was very close actually fainting.

      • Desi is supposed to ask about the trunk as he reaches for the ringing phone, but he's too busy laughing at William Frawly's line that he forgets where he is. Lucy's ad-libbed reminder snaps Desi out of it, but then he asks about the trunk AFTER he answers the phone.

      • Sheila Bromley (Helen Erickson Kaiser) was born on 10/31/1911, which actually makes her approximately 3 months younger than Lucille Ball, who was born August 6, 1911, 10 years earlier than the character of Lucy Ricardo.

      • Lucy Ricardo's birth certificate states that she was born in 1921.

      • My Favorite Husband: The Passports

      • Music performed on this episode included "Skip to my Lou" and "Mad'moiselle from Armentieres".
