It's Yankee Doodle Day in Westport, and at the celebration they're unveiling a Revolutionary War statue, which the Ricardos are dedicating. Ricky is also going to give a speech when they unveil the statue. Meanwhile, Little Ricky loses his dog, Fred, so Lucy, Ricky and the Mertzes set out to find him. Lucy gets in the car to search, not knowing that the cart that is carrying the statue is still attached to the car, and backs the car up into the garage. The statue is destroyed, and Lucy only has two hours to replace it before the Yankee Doodle Day celebration. Meanwhile, at the unveiling, Ricky gives his speech and unveils the "statue", which is really Lucy. The Mertzes have found Fred the dog, but he runs up and starts licking her face.
