The Star Upstairs
AIRED:
Cornel Wilde becomes the one-hundredth movie star Lucy has seen in Hollywood. He is living in the penthouse directly above the Ricardo suite. Determined to get a glimpse of the handsome actor, Lucy disguises herself as a bellboy, then hides under the star's luncheon cart to gain entry into Wilde's suite. Things go smoothly until she finds herself locked out on Cornel's terrace and must make her way down the side of the building using a few blankets as rope. Swashbuckler Cornel Wilde guest-stars as himself in this episode.moreless

  • Silly, but a good example of Lucy's talent.

    9.0
A good Hollywood episode that focuses mostly on Lucy. Fred doesn't appear and Ricky only comes in at the beginning and the end. (You can hear Desi Arnaz laughing with the audience during the scenes he is offstage.) The plot gives Lucy a chance to show her varied skills: delivering one-liners, reacting to lines and - unusual for female stars - physical comedy. Of course, the basic story is quite ridiculous, but the fact that you can ignore that and enjoy the silliness of it all, proves the talent of both actors and writers.

One unusual element here is the attention a guest character receives. Bobby, as played by Bob Jellison, is trusted with a lot of the comedy, something usually reserved for a famous guest star. And the celebrity guest star? That may well be the most dated thing about the episode. Who in heaven's name was Cornel Wilde?moreless
