iCarly

This review is for both part 1 and part 2 of the 1-hour "iCarly" TV movie "iStart a Fan War". In my opinion, this is the funniest 1-hour "iCarly" TV movie since "iDate a Bad Boy". This 1-hour TV movie just had me laughing so hard. I thought it was very funny when Spencer made his Aruthur costume. Carly talking to her new crush on webcam in her room was pretty funny. Spencer's (Aruthur) entrance at Webicon was hilarious. It was so hilarious when the fans were attacking Freddie and then Freddie went back to the fans because he loved being attacked by fans. It was hilarious when Spencer threw his Aruthur stick at the fans to save Freddie from the fans and then the fans throw it back at Spencer. Carly, Sam, and Freddie being at their conference at the Webicon was very funny. I also loved the surprise appearances from this show such as Craig, Eric, and Gavin from "Drake and Josh" and Stacey from "Zoey 101". Craig and Eric (just like in "Drake and Josh") were hilarious in this 1-hour TV movie. It was funny when Craig and Eric got kicked out and then Eric said that they got kicked out of the Teen Choice Awards because Craig wanted to touch Justin Bieber's hair. I was also excited that Jack Black guest starred in this 1-hour TV movie because he is one of my favorite actors. The Spencer (Aruthur) vs. Aspartamay battle was so hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing because of how hilarious the subplot between Spencer and Aspartamay was. Gibby, Guppy, and their grandfather's subplot was also hilarious. Let's just say that this 1-hour TV movie didn't make me stop laughing until it ended... that's how hard I was laughing. Overall, the funniest 1-hour "iCarly" TV movie since "iDate a Bad Boy". 10/10

I just have to that this is one of the best episodes of iCarly yet. I will admit that it did not resolve the question of whether Freddie's significant other should be Carly or Sam, but it was a very good episode. Sam didn't tormet Freddie once in it. Spencer's confrontation with Jack Black was a total scream. As a nerd, I figured that the triangle debate would get out of hand, but in my humble opinion, I feel that Carly deserves Freddie more than Sam does. Sam does not deserve Freddie the way she treats him. I give this episode a perfect 10.

In this iCarly episode, the iCarly cast heads to Webicon to connect with their fans. However, during their panel, a fan war breaks out between the 'shippers: those who want Carly and Freddie to be together (Creddie) and those who support a Sam and Freddie relationship. Spencer meets up with an online rival from his "World of Warlords" game (Jack Black), and Gibby has a hard time getting there at all. The rest of this review is about the main plot with Carly, Sam, and Freddie. The subplots were wonderful and I just loved them.



To be honest, this episode was a bit of a disappointment. That analysis has nothing to do with the quality of the episode and everything to do with how the writers chose to deal (i.e. NOT) with the main plot point. (I thought all the actors did a great job, as usual; my frustration is with the script).



In the interest of fairness, I am a shipper (although which 'ship is irrelevant for this review), so I probably felt higher stakes for this episode. Even so, I can't help but feel slightly insulted as a fan by the way this episode was marketed and then used as a (really, REALLY) unsubtle lecture. In this episode, to be frank: nothing happens. I mean *nothing*. Yes, Spencer and Gibby deal with some shenanigans. But for the main cast, nada. There's a fan war...and they don't even really get involved. The iCarly crew had SUCH hype about this episode, and this is how I responded throughout the episode:



1. Episode starts: Excitement level- 10, Omg, I'm *so* excited!!!!!!!

2. Carly talks about the 'shippers to her beau of the episode; she has no interest in it: Excitement level- 9, oh, well, i guess she's used to it, but I wonder what will happen next????

3. The other characters show no interest in the 'shipper revelation either: Excitement level- 8, hm, i thought they'd REACT a bit more...oh well, Action to follow!!

4. They get to Webicon, have their panel, fan brings up the 'shipper "war"...and Carly/Sam/Freddie seem confused as to why people think this is interesting- Excitement level- 7, something HAS to happen soon, right? Right?

5. Fanwar happens, fans go crazy...C/S/F just seem frustrated: Excitement level- 6.5. Why should I be excited? The main characters seem moderately unconcerned.

6. Carly makes her speech, asking for rational behavior: Excitement level- 5.5. We are being lectured. It is supposed to be the pinnacle of the episode, and the climax is a speech...telling people to not be so excited. If I get less excited, I'll be drowsy.



Normally, I wouldn't be so harsh. This episode was just as good as most iCarly episodes. But THAT is exactly the point. They made this episode one of their iCarly movies, got a fantastic guest star, and were admirably connecting with their fans. But they did that by billing "iStart a Fanwar" with phrases like "The question everyone wants to know!" and "What fans have been waiting for" and other "drama!filled! statements". In the advertisements, they acknowledged how much their fans wanted to hear about this, how excited they were. I knew there was no way we'd get a clear answer, but they literally gave us nothing. They hyped us up, and then lectured us through Carly as to why it was silly to be hyped in the first place. Dan and the other writers didn't have to continue with any romantic hints, but they almost acted confused: We have *no* idea why people think there's romance. Except that there HAVE been (a couple) episodes with romantic undertones. And never got resolved. But it's disingenuous of the writers to act like we completely created ALL romance in our heads. The script makes the characters act like "Oh, we've never considered romantic possibilities, we don't know why you are", when we know that's not true. It felt rude for the writers to say "Look! Fans! This thing you've wanted to hear about? We're gonna go all out for this episode!...PSYCH!" I know a lot of real-life fans recognized themselves in the tv-fans; but the characters we actually identify with (Carly/Sam/Freddie) don't get invested in the issue at all, so why should we be invested in the episode? It's irritating to spend all the previous time being told to "get excited" and then being told the *whole* episode to "calm down". Dan and Co. had an opportunity: an exciting topic and a dedicated fan base who was on pins and needles to see it. They made it one of the most uneventful (for the main characters) episodes yet. They walked out of Webicon *exactly* the same people as they walked in, and the only ones being moralized at was...us. Without the hype, this would have been cute.

pretty good, i didn't really think i would like spencer's plot but it was pretty funny, probably the best part of the episode. gibby's plot with his grandfather was kinda boring and really didn't need to be here, it was obviously just filler (Though some was good). There wasn't really a 'twist' at the end though which was disappointing. But overall pretty good, gets a B+

The latest episode of iCarly is actually pretty funny and made me miss the show which hasn't had a new episode in over a month. I am not much of a Jack Black fan, but I would be lying if I did not say that he was actually kind of funny here. I was surprised they ran so long with that World of Warcraft parody, I mean I bet the average 12 year old viewer did not even know what was going on.



Speaking of the show's young target audience, why is there always so much violence on this show? It works because iCarly gets massive ratings, but maybe it sends the wrong message.



The Gibby, Gubby and Grandpa scenes were good though. This whole episode was well-done.

So this show was great, the best one I have seen in a while, the main main plot with the crew was well done, the fans acted superb. The other main plot with spencer was great as well, in fact, idk if i was because i am a super jack black fan or wat, but i actually found it way funnier than the main plot, i was laughing most of the time they showed spencer and jack black "fighting" haha. And the sub plot with gibby was awesome, the grandpa was a nice addition and did get a few laughs out of me. The show ran smoothly, i think thats another think that made this episode so great, that it didnt feel rushed. If they would have done it for a half an hour like a normal episode it probably wouldnt have been as great. I just had one little concern. The issue with this episode that didnt make me give it a 10 was the fact why this episode was created in the first place, or at least why we thought it was created. Freddie didnt end up with anybody. That did tick me off a bit; of course they cant reveal it so early in the show they are probably going to make more episodes still to get more money cuz iCarly seems like its a good source of revenue for Nick. However wat really pissed me off was that they didnt even hinted with who Freddie is going to stay. Im not going to say with who i want him to stay cuz then i would start a war of my own. haha. but i do want him to say with one of the two and the fact that they didnt hint anything concerning this issue made me not give it the 10 that it could have potentially deserved.

Man, you gotta love Dan Schneider, this was a really good idea of an episode, and it was great how straightforwardly he addressed the Creddie/Seddie issue that has been going on for the actual fans of the show. As 1 hour specials go, this definitely has to be one of iCarly's best. Usually the iCarly TV "movies" bring us disappointment. Just watch iQuit iCarly and find out for yourself, but this episode was really good. I loved Carly's speech at the end with addressing the issue and stating that iCarly is just for laughs and not about couples. Dan Schneider even gave his senior viewers a treat with bringing back characters from his past series like Eric & Craig for Drake & Josh which by the way were absolutely hilarious. Or Stacy from Zoey 101. You've just outdone yourself here Dan, and you've made all of your fans happy.



My only complaint is that Jack Black's guest spot was wasted with the World of Warcraft parody with Spencer. Spencer usually has the superior plots of the night, but his plot this week wasn't very entertaining, and it dragged on for quite a bit. But overall a great one hour special of iCarly. Good job Dan!

and an episode of iCarly hasn't done that at all since iPsycho, and this movie was even better than iPsycho (I liked the reference too by the way) the nerd and fandom humor was spot on and I was really entertained by the fangeeks screaming over the relationships, very realistic and well done, with a nice message at the end too (which, to keep with the realism, was ignored by the crazy fans, perfect). I wish there actually was a twist ending, and that Carly had gotten together with Adam, but he became a one off, so sad.



Spencer's sub-plot was hilarious, Jack Black was actually funny and charming as the adversary, the clever quips and songs were perfect. The fighting may have been repetitive, but it was obviously comedic fighting, and the obviousness of it made it funnier. Gibby's plot was pointless and didn't add anything to the episode.
