Would anybody else like to see episodes on the guys who build the ice roads?

Does anyone else think it would be interesting to see how they build the ice roads? It seems to me that the road builders face the greatest danger of falling through the ice when they are building the roads. I would find that more interesting than the shows with the guys who whine all the time. Also, why don't they include coverage on the families of the ice road truckers. The wives have to be really tough to face months of parenting alone while they worry about their husbands falling through the ice.

I agree. On the first season they did show some clips of the families back home. They don't do that anymore. And yes, I think the guys who build the iceroad are facing even greater dangers. So perhaps they should have done at least one episode about these guys. The season isn't over yet. Maybe, maybe?!?!

As well as seeing an episode or 2 on the guys who currently build the ice roads, I would love to see footage of the first ones to be built, if it was available. These days, there's all sorts of technical gadgetry to help them out (as seen in this show, where the thickness of the ice is regularly measured using some fancy equipment). But can you imagine how the first ice road builders felt, setting out with far more basic tools? It must have taken some guts to be involved with building those first roads.

And I agree - a little more family background on the drivers would be nice - I've just seen the first season, and Jay mentioned that his daughter had pneumonia. His fiancée must have had a hard time, worrying about both Jay and the baby. Mind you, I notice that his daughter's illness didn't prompt him to leave the ice road early. Although I think he actually lives in Yellowknife, so he could at least spend time with his family between runs.

I agree. I'd love to see how it's done step by step. We heard a little about it in the first year, but not much since then. I think it would make a very interesting episode.

I think there was an episode in History Channel's Modern Maverls that was about the Ice Road up in Canada.
