  • How can you not love a show that turns you on to John Astin?

On YouTube, I watched some of the few "I'm Dickens, He's Fenster" clips recently, & it's still excellent. Since at the time my Dad was a "wood butcher" & was always telling stories about other carpenters, roofers, & painters, we always identified with the show, & I was sorry to see it end, but overjoyed when John Astin popped up in Addams Family. The few times I saw Marty Ingels I enjoyed him, too, & when I'd see the late Bruno Kirby & the late Tom Sizemore, for some reason they always remind me of Ingels. Luck guy, too, being married to Shirley Jones.(but as far as "The Partridge Family-, forget about it, YUCK!). "I'm Dickens, He's Fenster" premiered at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisismoreless

I'M DICKENS--HE'S FENSTER was an average sitcom starring two above-average funny men. John Astin was Harry Dickens, and Marty Ingels played Arch Fenster-two construction workers who had a way of screwing things up both on and off the job. Dickens was married to Kate, and was a bit more responsible than swinging single Fenster. The show lasted only one season.
  • Abbott and Costello hardly did it better.

But then, I don't think, for the most part, A & C were all that great (aside from Who's on First). This was a quite nice little sitcom on the margins of the era. What always intrigued me about it, was that later it was... shall we say 'borrowed from' for 'Working Stiffs' -- the 70's Paramount attempt to clone Laverne and Shirley with Jim Belushi and Michael Keaton.
