I have heard that the DVD's are heavily edited and do not show all of the sketchs in their entirety. Is this true?

I got his off of wikipedia.org:

As of April 11, 2006, all five seasons of the series are available on DVD (albeit in edited form). Reruns of the show air on the BET Network.

And then on amazon.com, the reviews stated that it does say it contains edited content.  Which basically sucks, because we all know the originals were the best.  I'm not sure why though.

This was the best review on there about the editing:

"I just got season 5 yesterday and already watched the first side of disc 1. Looks like this season is edited just like 2-4. I did notice on the box it did say edited content for DVD release. I don't know what is missing but so far the episodes are ranging between 15-20 minutes. I HOPE sometime in the future FOX entertainment will find a way to release some of the missing stuff or at least the music video parodies. It's better that we got something than nothing."

Yeah they are edited. The Vanilla Ice skit with Jim Carrey isn't on there and the Michael Jackson "Black or White " parody with Tommy Davidson is on there either.

That's upsetting.  Those skits were hilarious.

I guess it could have been the licensing to use the beats of the songs in the music videos.  Sitcomsonline did state that is why many of Fox's shows despite good sales only had one or two seasons released because of copyright and licensing issues of music used.  I think Fox is being cheap and shortchanging the viewers.

@#%^&* Fox! they are, they are screwing us b/c they don't wanna pay the ©... Well, it sounds like I, or we, are best of getting season 1, sounds like it's unedited... (read above), at least it's implied (not this quote, the one at the top, the first reply, with the review from amazon.com).

I hate when the studios do this. I know it is a vastly different show, but Universal did the same thing with Quantum Leap on DVD. They didn't want to pay for all the music, so they replaced it with really bad muzak. But then, Universal turns around and pays for all the music on the Miami Vice TV Show dvds, which I was highly grateful for. But, the studios shoudln't get to pick and choose like that. I have always wanted In Living Color, but now, not so much. For many of us, all these shows are good memories and they should respect the fans. On a brightside, you can purchase Quantum Leap on Amamzon UK and those are un-edited originals. Now, of course you would have to have a multi regional dvd player or only play them on your computer, but it is worth it, IMO. They do not have the same copyright laws there, so they can release them the way the were meant to be. Maybe they did with In Living Color too. I will have to look into that now. Just wanted to share my opinion. Thanks!

I didn't know about the UK copyright laws. That's not fair. Well... thanks for sharing that.

Np. I checked Amazon UK, and unfortunately they only sell the Region 1 version over there. Kind of a shame, I was looking forward to ordering those. Always worth a shot.

I hate that they changed most of the songs the FlyGirls danced too. Good to finally have it on DVD though.

Can anyone tell me if The Mr. Roger's skit is on the season 4 DVD?

Also, does anyone know of any clips floating around the web?

Youtube didn't have any of the Mr. Rogers skit, unless it's hidden under a different name. Thanks though.

I don't think I'll even bother buying the 4th or 5th season. I got the first three at one time, noticed some of the skits didn't seem the way I remembered them. If they are going to put a show on DVD they should put it the way it was aired!!! Or if they want to have an edited verson (for some stupid reason ) so it is "Family friendly" then they should sell a second version that isn't edited.
