WITSEC Stepmother is a very good episode of a show that has been more topsy-turvy than a seesaw this season. It showed how Mary can be really caring and good at her job at the same time, and on another positive (no annoying scenes with Mary's mother, a character that thankfully has been mostly written out.)

I am not sure why Mary and Brandi needed a brother, but if it leads to some fireworks in the finale you cannot. While I have faulted In Plain Sight for its inconsistency in the past, the one thing that it has consistently delivered in the season finale. While this was a good hour of TV, I expect an even better one next week.moreless
  • Another really good episode

In this episode of In Plain Sight, the following happens. When a high school student witnesses a robbery, she agrees to testify and so she and her father go into Witness Protection, whilst her mother does not. We see the problems that this causes, and how it damages the relationship between them mother and daughter.

Scott gets hurt and is taken to hospital. He claims to have been robbed, but soon he confesses that he owes money. Overall yet another really good episode. It was nice to see Mary acting as a mother for her witness, which is perhaps something we will see more of in the future.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Mary is introduced to Cindy as Inspector Mary Shannon. However, in the past, Mary has always been introduced to her witnesses by her cover name Mary Shepard.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Mary: (closing voiceover) Split apart, reunited or adjusting for new conditions on the ground, family is a double-edged sword. They are the best of times, the worst of times, your keys to the kingdom and the skeletons in your closet. If only we didn't have to eat dinner with them.

    • Mary: (voiceover) Winston Churchill famously said that democracy is the worst form of government... except for all the others. The same goes for family. Or as we'd say on our side of the pond, nobody picks on my brother but me.

    • Marshall: What are you doing here?
Mary: Well, Sabrina's mom screwed the pooch; showed up four hours late and cut the weekend short. So sad for them. So sweet for me. Free food; fights; food fights.
Marshall: You're actually hoping for violence.
      Mary: I'm not hoping. Rooting.

    • Mary: Okay, now I get to tell you where we're going. Chicago. Exciting, right? Cubs, Second City, deep-dish pizza.
Sabrina: I hate baseball, I don't know what that second thing is, and I'm lactose intolerant. So.
Mary: But we have your sunny disposition. So there's that...

    • Brian: (to Sabrina) Who's the foxy Gen X-er, Breen? Your sister or your stepmom?
Mary: Too soon to tell. Her dad and I just started Facebook poking.

    • Mary: (to Stan, after he assigned Marshall to a case he didn't want) I'm taking Sabrina to Chicago to see her mother today. How am I supposed to revel in Marshall's misery from 1,000 miles away?
Marshall: Sorry to blow your weekend.
