  • An eccentric science teacher is accused of molesting a troubled boy. The police uncover the truth, before someone takes the law into their own hands.

Another well meaning, "Very Special Episode" that fails to deliver. The molestation charges are false and the audience will probably be able to determine that from the beginning of the episode. Thus the episode really becomes about how the tabloid press can destroy a man's reputation, how people can rush to judgment based on fear and innuendo and how being an, eccentric, unmarried "odd duck" in a small town can be difficult. Each topic is certainly important, and can make for some great tv drama, but they are all too superficially handled here to be entertaining or enlightening. The mild mannered teacher is loved by his kids, and with good reason. Yet, he seems to still be recovering from the death of his parents, which is never really developed beyond eventually explaining why he left an earlier teaching position [he had a break down] and his totally illogical suicide. The teacher seems to have no personal life, no hobbies and, yes, is decidedly asseuxal. Perhaps if they had made the teacher gay the episode could have dealt with how anti-gay prejudice can manifests through lies and innuendos as well as overt discrimination and harassment. Otherwise this is a well meaning episode about many different, important, topics that fails to entertain or enlighten.moreless
