  • April's last session.

As we prepare to say goodbye to this crop of characters April's episode was one of my favorites, and this is coming from somebody who did not really enjoy her episodes for the most part. This was sad to see how misguided April still is but at least she will be getting the guidance she does need even if it is not from Paul.

I think it would be a bit too hard to have something serious happen to a cancer patient, but I can see how some people may have been put off by the ending. After all, Paul spoke about all the growth April has shown, physically and mentally, but to me I see the same brash, foul-mouthed college student that I saw walk in the door two months ago.

This was a good way to end In Treatment's Sunday block and hopefully the rest are as good.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • April: (referring to Paul's webpage) Someone wrote a comment. Someone named Sophie. Was she a patient of yours?
(A few minutes later, Paul gives April a leather flying cap as a parting gift.)
April: (wearing her leather cap) Oh, my mom's gonna love this. She really rocks the whole Amelia Earhart look.

Mia Wasikowska, who played Sophie in the show's pilot season, stars in Amelia Earhart's biopic, Amelia in 2009.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • April: I'm sorry.
      Paul: No apologies.
April: Why don't I have to apologize? Is it because I'm sick?
      Paul: Because I'm your therapist.
April: So what? You're not a human being? Someone calls you a fucking asshole and you don't care?

    • April: (talking about her mom) She used to say 'A mother is only as happy as her least happy child.' Then she would look at Daniel and sigh. And I would think, 'You're staring at the wrong kid, lady.'

    • April: I can't imagine loving anyone ever again. I don't know how I did it once. Looks exhausting.
Paul: I know what you mean.
April: I have cancer. What's your excuse?
      Paul: I'm... no longer 23.

    • Paul: When I first met you, you couldn't acknowledge that anything would hurt you.
April: Now everything hurts me. The rain hurts me. I feel like I have no skin.
Paul: Well, therapeutically, that's... that's a good thing.

    • April: There used to be this path and it was like... it was steep. It was tiring. But it was, you know, well-lit.
Paul: And it's not there anymore.
April: It's completely gone! Did I just make it all up?!
Paul: No. You just got rerouted. Your life's path has changed without your consent.
