Maybe it's just my experience with shows and movies similar to Sophie's situation, but I find myself growing progressively more nervous about her relationship with Cy. The writing is very subtle and secretive with the way it introduces certain things to us, and the thing I was looking most forward to last week was Sophie's relationship with Cy and there's some good pay-off with it. You can tell that Paul is thinking there's some strange relationship between Sophie and Cy that could be sexual (a worst case scenario).

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the back and forth between Paul and Sophie. I remember last week that I found this the least interesting at the time and that teen actors get on my nerves sometimes, but I'm forced to eat my words.. there was plenty of tension here and the episode sped by. It's a shame that we have to wade through four more patients to get back to her, because I'm hooked now.

I was also glad to see more of Kate. It's becoming more and more clear that Paul and Kate have issues and I'm glad to see the show continue to reference it even if it's not Paul's session.moreless
  • Sophie and Paul begin to connect on a deeper level.

This was the episode where I really became ready to commit watching the full season. I think that this is where the show really begins to hit it's stride. Sophie becomes a more fully developed character. There is a subtle nuance to who she is - letting Paul in to her psyche ever slowly. She is clearly testing her relationship with Paul when she asks for his assistance in changing her wet clothes. He instead solicits assistance from his wife in handling the task. Is this foreshadowing a history of abuse at the hands of an older man, or Sophie's own sexual awakening. Only time will tell.moreless

    • Kate: How on earth do you manage with two broken arms? Sophie: I don't.

    • Sophie: (to Paul) You could learn a lot from your wife about how to talk to people.

    • Sophie: Don't talk to me like I'm a child, please. Paul: Fair enough.

    • Paul: (to Sophie) You know, when you walked in here I thought to myself, somebody in your life has broken the rules. And I felt that, that if I had helped you change your clothes, that I would have been doing the same thing. I felt like you were testing me. I felt like you wanted to make sure that this was a safe place. That the same things that happen out there don't happen in here.

    • Sophie: Shrinks' kids are psycho. Everyone knows that.

    • Paul: Dana is the little girl you used to babysit? Why did you stop? Sophie: Who told you I stopped? Did I tell you that last week? (Paul nods) Sophie: You have good memory for an old fart. Paul: Thank you.

    • Sophie: Did you know, like, every girl there is a Mia or an Anna except me? They know it. They just don't do anything about it. They encourage it. Paul: These girls, Anna and Mia, are they friends of yours? Sophie: You don't know these girls? They're fun girls, especially Anna. Rexic? (Paul finally gets it) Paul: Anorexic. Okay. And Mia, bulimia? Sophie: You're sharp as a tack. Paul: Thank you.
