Character appearances in opening video: Keisuke, Itsuki, Iketani, Natsuki, Nakazato, Shingo, Mako and Sayuki, Ryosuke, and Takumi.
The Decal On all the Redsuns car for the most of the 1st stage all had the "U" and the "N" in Redsuns where seperate letters until around the 2nd and 3rd stages
The gauges in Ryosuke's white FC3S RX-7 show that it is a 1986-1988 RX-7, yet the round taillights would mean that it's a 1989-1991 RX-7. Also, his car is missing the rear windshield wiper and white reverse lights, AND his auxiliary lights (under the retractable headlights) don't come on at all when they should be on!
When the RedSuns first show up on Mt. Akina, there is a brief scene shot in front of the three RedSuns cars in 3D right after they show the 2D drawn version. Here you can see through the headlight assembly on the white RX-7. You can see all the way to the back of the car (it's hollow).
I am not sure if this continues into 2nd stage, but on all 26 1st stage episodes, the odometer reads 200,273 miles.
A lot of anime fans have been turned off by the animation in this series because of the weird looking lips of the characters. This is pretty easy to get used to, and is corrected in the second season, so stick with it.
Kouichiro: Street racers don't like losing. They get too serious about racing. There's nothing worse than losing to outsiders on your home ground. It's like a law for street racers.
Itsuki: (Kouichiro races off) This sucks! Why're we the only ones without a car?!
All of the license plates for the cars are blanked out in the Tokyopop version, and this continues through until the Extra Stage.
Coincidentally there is an anime director named Ryosuke Takahashi, but he did not participate in this series.
English Cast Special Note: ALL Tokyopop English cast members were considered stars for the entire series. The following stars were credited for episodes 1-9: Takumi "Tak" Fujiwara - Dave Wittenberg Itsuki "Iggy" Takeuchi – Robbie Rist Koichiro "Cole" Iketani - Crispin Freeman Keisuke "K.T." Takahashi - Steve Blum Ryosuke "RY" Takahashi - Lex Lang Bunta Fujiwara - Kerrigan Mahan Yuichi "Boss" Tachibana – Michael McConnohie Natsuki "Natalie" Mogi - Kat Cressida Takeshi "Zak" Nakazato - Wally Wingert Kenji - Jason Spisak
In the Tokyopop English anime and manga version, the Eight-Six is sometimes referred to as the '86, implying it was made in 1986. But Eight-Six really refers to the AE86 generation of Toyota cars, both the Toyota Sprinter Trueno and the Toyota Levin, which are the fifth generation Toyota Corolla designs from 1983-1987.
It should be pretty obvious at this point that Takumi Fujiwara, the kid bored by cars, is not only an amazing driver, but also drives the '86 all the local racers are so obsessed with. Fun fact: one of the reasons the show revolves (more or less) around the '86 Trueno, is that the show's creator owns one and loves it.
All the cars and tracks and towns featured in Initial D are faithfully based on real cars/roads/towns in Japan.
