FX FX FX YOU'RE GONNA DIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE NEWS

... FX and Louis C.K. are continuing their romance with a multi-year deal for C.K.'s production company Pig Newton to produce pilots and series for the network. Louis will have dibs to write and/or direct each project as well. Basically, FX is giving him the keys to the house. What shows will he make? Sons of Apathy? It's Always Depressing in New York? American Horrifying Masturbating Story? [Variety]

BUSINESS TIME

... Showtime has renewed its interview series Inside Comedy for a third season. The show will return on Sunday, February 2 for 10 half-hour episodes featuring Jimmy Fallon, Zach Galifianakis, Jonah Hill, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bette Midler, Alan Arkin, Dick Van Dyke, and Richard Belzer, who are all being cut open by professional surgeons to see how comedy is made. [Showtime via press release]

... News to me: Netflix is making an original program based on the kids' movie Turbo, about a racing snail. News to everyone: the series, Turbo FAST, will debut on Christmas Eve with five new episodes. More episodes will roll out throughout the year. I'm totally binging this one. [Netflix via press release]

... Comedy Central has announced premiere dates for a pair of its newish shows. Kroll Show will return on Tuesday, January 14, and Inside Amy Schumer comes back on Tuesday, April 1. Okay fine but where is Nathan For You dammit!?!? [Splitsider]

... There's a major death coming to Nashville!!! And let's just hope it's Teddy, Lamar, or Teddy's wife Whatsherface because they all suck. Yes, I love Nashville. [E! Online]

... Syndicated celebrity news show Dish Nation has been renewed for a second season. Congratulations, whatever you are! [The Wrap]

... BBC One will put out a mini-episode and possible Season 3 prequel of Sherlock on Christmas Day. But there are so few details on the project, including whether Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch will even be in it, that I don't know what else to type here. [Zap2It]

CASTING NEWS

... Bret Michaels—frontman for Poison, most valuable consumer within the bandana industry, and star of the sex-education drama Rock of Love—will guest-star on NBC's Revolution in what might be the greatest news of the year. He'll play... get this... "a post-apocalyptic version of himself," and even strum out an acoustic version of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Revolution has a past with musicians; last season, the series helped debut some new Led Zeppelin songs. [NBC via press release]

... The Good Wife will soon welcome British actor Matthew Goode (The Watchmen) in a major recurring role. He'll play a prosecutor who buddies up to Alicia. [TV Line]

... ABC's Dancing With the Stars, which has about the same trajectory of relevance as a video-rental store, is cooking up an all-Oscar-winner edition, according to some rumors. The centerpiece would be Renee Zellweger, in case that tells you how exciting such season might be. [Radar Online]

... Kevin Rankin continues to be awesome. The Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad, and Justified star (the Holy Trinity of recent television) will join Fox's remake of Broadchurch that's now called Gracepoint. Rankin will play the minister in the town where the series' key murder takes place. Also joining the series is The Following's Virginia Kull. [Deadline Hollywood]

... TBS's Men At Work will feature guest appearances from Ryan Phillippe, David Krumholz, and Emmanuelle Chriqui. In the comedy about a bunch of dudes who work at a men's magazine, Phillippe will play himself, Krumholz will recur as a boss, and I'm guessing Chriqui will play some sort of hot chick. [TV Guide]

... Constance Zimmer (House of Cards) will appear in an arc on NBC's Growing Up Fisher, the midseason comedy about a son and his blind dad. Zimmer will also guest-star in Matt Nix's new USA pilot Complications. [THR]

SAD NEWS

... Bill Beckwith, the co-host of HGTV's Curb Appeal, was killed in a crash in San Francisco on Monday night. Beckwith was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a car. He was 38 years old. [SF Gate]

I guess this means that Arthur Darvill won't be reprising his role for the American Broadchurch, damn it.

Schumer comes back, but Jeselnik and The Ben Show don't? Well that's a load of bullshit.

I have never watched Men At Work at all but if Emmanuelle Chriqui ia going to be in it, I might just try. Loved that actress !

Louis CK is one of my favorite comedian mainly because he seem so real and down to earth. I guess now he is probably making millions and might lose the glam of being an underdog.I do hope he make good shows but he certainly cannot act like he joked about it many times.

Matthew Goode was kind of fabulous in the just concluded Starz mini series 'Dancing on the Edge'.

The twisted mind of Nick Kroll got another season and its coming back soon - Excellent News.

Of all the 80's rock stars they pick the least... zzz.

Come on, really? Who thinks Brett Michaels would survive in any apocalyptic situation? I mean, aside from the medical issues from the countless STD's he's had to face, I'm sure, would his fake hair make it? I strongly doubt it. If they show Brett bald, I would rejoice.

Boring news day...

That news about Turbo is months old. They take a while to make. Dreamworks probably regrets blowing a bunch of dough on a cartoon series so prematurely, after the movie failed to make much of a dent.

There's no other place to say this, so I'll just say it here: did Mindy Lahiri say she was 23 tonight? That can't be right -- I must have heard wrong. A 23-year-old wouldn't be hysterically searching for Mr. Right like all her eggs were going to expire the following week.

Also, Kaling is not 23-looking.

I assumed she just said that. Besides, I think in some other episode she said something about being around 30.
A good episode, though, I wish they weren't benching this show.

I don't see the point of a Sherlock prequel without Cumberbatch and Freeman.

Also glad to hear something of Nashville, it's becoming one of my favorite shows. And yes, kill Gunnar. Not Maddie though, she's grown on me.
Reply

Even if Maddie hadn't been good, you just can't kill the child of one of the main characters. They would have to write Rayna all depressed and miserable for a long time.

I think it has to be Lamar. I don't see how they can kill anyone else without making the show pretty depressing. Maybe Peggy, but then what would they do with Teddy?
Reply
Flag
Well, their relationship is not that exciting and I have a feeling Teddy would get over it soon enough:) Still, you might be right about Lamar.

Glad for some Nashville info, it doesn't get much notice around here. I'd had Gunnar, Maddie, Luke Wheeler, and Zoey to the list of people I hope they may kill off.

Your theories of the type of shows Louie C.K. will make for FX are precisely the reason I've found it difficult to watch Louie itself... It's always been more cringe-worthy and depressive for me, and that's not what I want from a 'comedy'.

Really? I found it funny, honest, life-affirming and even uplifting. I guess it depends on the view. As much as Louie talks about how life is shit, I think he's a person who knows what true happiness is.

How about the episodes with the new friend in Miami? Or the whole David Letterman storyline? Or the ending with China?

Can't remember, plus I no longer care about Revolution, but were the Zeppelin tunes new in that episode they did? I thought they just had the rights to use a couple of their classic ones.
