  • Dr. Claw plans to launch a missle that will destroy Metro City. Gadget is sent to find and dismantle the missle, hidden somewhere on a farm outside the city.

    6.0
Although this is the third episode of the series, it is the first one that actually takes place in or near Metro City. This episode follows the typical Inspector Gadget storyline scheme. There are a few funny gags in the episode, like when Gadget confuses Brain for an antique gas pump. Even though this farm is outside the city, it's strange that Gadget assumes that the locals would speak with any kind of drawl. When he enters a shop, he attempts to blend in by donning a farmer's hat and speaking in a dialect that is close to American Southern. The climactic scene is pretty well done. Brain scrambles to cut the right wire that will terminate the countdown while Gadget fishes around inside the missle and breaks things. It's not too entertaining of an episode, but it is exactly what one should expect in an Inspector Gadget cartoon.moreless
  • A good typical example of an Inspector Gadget episode.

    9.0
This is one of the first Inspector Gadget episodes I saw in recent years when I was trying to rediscover this show. It was a perfect example of what's supposed to happen in each episode of the series. It has all of the points that occur in each episode, in which Gadget and Penny and Brain are doing something, the self-destructing message bit occurs, Penny has Brain follow him, Dr. Claw has his MAD Agents try to do Gadget in, Gadget thinks they are helpful allies, Penny and Brain do all the work in solving the case, Gadget gets all the credits, Dr. Claw flies away angrily in his jet, and then ends with a safety tip. The only flaw in this one is the bad animation, since it was animated in Taiwan instead of Japan, like many episodes are. I highly recommend this as an episode if you plan to watch Inspector Gadget for the first time.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Brain's disguises: jogger, gas station pump and hay bale

    • Inspector Gadget broke the law in this episode. Though the gas pump Gadget uses is a fake (Brain in disguise), Gadget doesn't know that, thinks he fills the tank and leaves without paying.

    • It is established in this episode that Metro City is the home of Inspector Gadget.

    • Top Secret Mission
"A highly experimental missile has been stolen by Dr. Claw. It is believed he will use the missile to destroy Metro City. Your assignment is to find the missile and prevent Dr. Claw from carrying out his plan."

    • How did Gadget hear Claw's threat as Claw flies off in the MAD jet at the end?

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Gadget: Am I right? Inspector Gadget is always right. Well, except for that time in Tangiers and there was that mess in Austria. I was almost right. Would you believe close. How about half right? Most of the time? No? Well...

    • Gadget: (as he begins to take a nap, counting sheep) One, two, three...(MAD agents start throwing sheep in the room)...four, five, six...how convenient, this place has everything.

  • NOTES (1)

    • This is the first Inspector Gadget episode to be animated in Taiwan by Wang Film Productions/Cuckoo's Nest Productions. This and eleven other first-season episodes that were animated in Taiwan have a more softer-outline look and off-model character designs, compared to the other first-season episodes animated primarily in Japan (mostly by Tokyo Movie Shinsha.)
