  • Set in Scotland, the episode features Gadget trying to save the world's leading scientist from Dr. Claw's mechanical lake monster.

    "Good"
This episode is definitely better than the first as far as having a more strong and steady storyline. The regular Inspector Gadget story formula is used. As with the pilot episode, this episode does not take place in Metro City. Dr. Claw's reasons for kidnapping the scientist and for possessing a mechanical lake monster are not explained. There are several funny moments, as when Gadget gets his car stuck in a field of sheep and he complains about the size of the roads. The final scene with Gadget, Penny, and Brain standing by a lake at sunset is quite visually beautiful.moreless

    • Penny never uses her familiar computer book in this episode. Though she does use a large computer that she somehow builds out of thin air.

    • The scene with Penny and Brain running up to Chief Quimby and Gadget at the end, along with the part with the Gadgetmobile splashing into the water are also used in the closing credits.

    • This episode has slightly higher-pitched end credits than the other first season episodes. This can be spotted on the "Inspector Gadget: The Original Series" DVD set.

    ADD NOTES
    • In some areas of the U.S., "Inspector Gadget" aired on a Monday through Friday basis in syndication, rather than being syndicated on Saturdays (and in some areas, it was broadcast six days a week). In many areas, "Monster Lake" was the first episode aired; it was the first broadcast on my local station. (This is appropriate considering how tacky and wildly out-of-pattern "Gadget in Winterland" was.) According to some web sites, "Monster Lake" first aired on Monday, Sept. 5, 1983 (presumably only on those stations syndicating the program on a Monday-Friday basis).

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • The Monster: The episode is all about the monster in the lake but they never once mention it by its name: The Loch Ness Monster.
