  • Following a tip-off,George & John investigate a fake passport scam.What follows is a fascinating look at murder,racism,love,lust & blood-ties.

    9.5
In this penultimate episode of 'Inspector George Gently',our two heroes become embroiled in a complex case of murder, lust and race-relations in early 1960s England.George's previous experiences involving British-Arabs make him determined to get this investigation right.

Again using flashbacks, this often impenetrable episode charts the uneasy relationships between a community of British-Arabs living in & around Newcastle and the local Geordies whose 'patch' they've encroached upon.

Sadly,it would seem that little has changed in the intervening years & this episode could well be set in todays England.

It's hard to imagine that there would be a satisfactory conclusion & the final scenes highlight this fact as families from both sides toe the party line, however,DS Bacchus' on the job training under George Gently's patient tutoring reveals a more enlightened John Bacchus as this episode draws to a close.

Over several groundbreaking episodes viewers have been treated to some totally believable storylines & excellent period pieces in what has become must-see television.

One comment about the hanging of the guilty man,a Muslim. Why is a Christian priest reading him the last rites? Is it because there were no Muslim clerics available or simply because this is our country & you die on our terms. An interesting conclusion to another brilliant episode of this exceptional piece of television.moreless
