Episode 2
AIRED:
In the second episode athletes from Nigeria, Britain, Hungary and Australia attempt to join last weeks winner, Kengo Shiomi for a place in the final. Challenges they had to compete in this week were; 200m Under Hurdles: As opposed to the traditional "over" the athletes must dive under the hurdles while attempting to finish the race in first place. Hurdles are allowed to be moved or knocked over as long as the athletes go under. It was the Nigerian athlete who won this round, and almost set a new record for his speed. Backstroke Tug O'War: One-on-one in the pool. Athletes must pull the rope over a black line while doing the backstroke. If they attempt to play the game by standing and tugging points are taken off and they do not get a second try. In the first round it was Hungary vs Britain. Although the Brit athlete tried out a different approach it didn't pay off and he was beat in no time. In the second round it was Australia vs Nigeria. What seemed like hours to the athletes, turned out to only be minutes. However it's not an easy game as the Nigerian athlete proved. After 40 seconds of tugging and frantic backstroking he gave up and was disqualified. Association Bobbage: Flipper-wearing athletes leap into pool from progessively higher points while trying to keep their heads out of the water. With Australia and Nigeria out of the game after two attempts, both earning them red flags, it was down to Britain's athlete to pull his weight together and try a new tactic as he was already given a red flag for his second attempt. Unfortunately he kept to his same routine and went under water, giving the Hungarian athlete his first time in the lead (overall.) Tennis Thwack: Smacking a ball upwards and timing how long it stays in the air. If the ball lands past specific white lines no points are added. Giving the Australian athlete his much needed points he managed to keep the ball in the air for just under 5 seconds. The British athlete missed out by 0.43 seconds. Head Long Dive: Much like the long traditional jump, but competitors are required to land in the sandpit on their stomach. Feet are not allowed to touch the sand before the torso and distance is measured from the furthest outreached hand. Eye goggles are a must have. As in most of the rounds, this finale was between the British and Hungarian athletes. Unfortunately for the competitors from Australia and Nigeria their feet touched the ground before their torso and they were no longer in the game. Meaning they have no chance for a place in the final. With the British athletes score upto 8.55m the Hungarian competitor had to get a great build up, and was under alot of pressure. Fortunately for him he beat his opponant, but only by 4cm. His score was 8.59m, which also means he was just 3cm from beating the World Record. Also for the second week running Britain came in second place, missing out by one mere point.moreless
