Into the Storm

I was flipping through the schedule yesterday and just peeked in to see what this title was all about, et voila!



I am a history buff of sorts and a huge fan of Churchill history particularly, so this was a really great opportunity to get a real glimpse into the WWII period for the most part. It appears I have to now backtrack and find "The Gathering Storm", but I digress...



So...at first I was disappointed because it did not focus on the periods of the war that I thought it would/should, though admittedly we are talking a huge amount of time and some of the most pivotal events of the past century, so being all-inclusive is an automatic "no-go".



And then I saw it for what it really was, and that is a glimpse at the MAN behind the events themselves. And, artistic license aside, it was wild to see that the arguably most influential man in the 20th century could not turn down his own bed or find the on/off switch for a portable heater. A factor of his upbringing I'm sure, but also a factor was his distant if not absent father, and all these things came together to create, as a line at the ending of the show said, "the saviour of our country (Britain)" and indeed the world as we know it.



My own melodrama aside, you can be less of a fan of the man than I am, but you can't deny that his tough and very lonely decisions kept "us" from losing the war in the early days...and then he was the one who had to live with all of them when the rest of "us" went home.



Glad that history gives us these people when we need them most, and nice insights provided in this show.
