The episode starts off in the nighttime, with a moon and a man, who looks to be in his twenties with long white hair and a purple crescent moon on his forehead, looking up at the sky and the moon. Suddenly a staff with two heads begins to float toward some kind of grave. Then a toad-like creature with big yellow eyes calls the man, "Lord Sesshomaru" and tells him that the staff has pinpointed the grave they've been searching for. Then a group of wolves appear and Sesshomaru walks toward the grave without fear of the wolves and the toad-like creature cowers behind him. The wolves begin growling and Sesshomaru stops and stands. Sesshomaru says something about a "fang" that can make him stronger. He holds out his hand and it glows with a greenish colour and he holds out his hand, pointing his index finger out. The wolves attack Sesshomaru who then spins with a glowing whip appearing from his pointed finger. When the wolves try to attack, they get caught and the whip tears them apart.
The wolves lay dead on the ground and Sesshomaru calls the toad-like creature, Jaken, and tells him to bring the Staff of Heads. Jaken runs up to the grave then he places the staff on the stone and on one side, a woman's head on the staff looks up, opens her eyes, and begins to scream. Jaken says that they [he and Sesshomaru] were misleaden and this was not the grave they've been looking for. Sesshomaru walks away from the grave. We then see more wolves running and on one of them, we see a flea on its back. He says that he has to report this incident to InuYasha as soon as possible.
A large group of soldiers are having a feast and the leader says that tomorrow they'll be able to go into battle. The general begins to hear the screams of men and goes to check it out. He sees some of his men killed by Sesshomaru. The boss asks who he was and Sesshomaru tells him that he needs a boat. The general just laughs at him and Sesshomaru simply replies, "The boat . . . this is not a request." The general decides to charge at him and Sesshomaru is very swift and grabs the general by the neck, lifting him off the ground then he dies. Sesshomaru throws the man into a boat. The soldiers begin to raise their swords and Sesshomaru looks out at the water. Jaken comes in and says that he couldn't find a boat but stops to see a bunch of boats. The soldiers figure out that Sesshomaru isn't human and surround him. Sesshomaru tells Jaken to take care of them and then he walk towards the boat. Jaken lifts his Staff of Two Heads and head of an old man is shown and he opens his mouth and breathes out fire burning the soldiers. Jaken looks around for Sesshoumaru and then runs over in the direction of Sesshomaru's last location. The staff then begins to glow and it floats off in one direction. It stops, and points the direction of where the "Fang" might be.
Sesshomaru and Jaken are in a boat and Jaken says that maybe InuYasha might know the location. Sesshomaru swings his left arm backwards, knocking Jaken into the water and holds the staff on Jaken's head and holds Jaken underwater. Sesshomaru says that InuYasha was put under a spell that sealed him to the Sacred Tree. Jaken, while trying to keep his head over the water, says that the seal was broken. He points out that the staff's position changed so he thought it might have something to do with InuYasha being alive again. Jaken then falls under the water, making gurgling noises.
Kagome comes out of the well, along with her bike. She begins a recap of what has happened to her and InuYasha so far. The flea that we saw riding in the wolves' fur is walking on a path. He says that he has been walking for three days and decides to take a break. He hears some sort of ringing. He looks up and the bike runs over him. Kagome then gets the feeling she had run over something, but figures it might have been her imagination.
InuYasha is lying down on a branch on a tree and Kagome tells him to get down so she can treat his wounds. He says he doesn't want to but Kagome says that he was badly injured during the fight with Yura. She still tells him to come down but he doesn't want to and says that his wounds aren't that bad. Kagome then tells InuYasha to sit and the beads pull on InuYasha's neck making him fall to the ground. Kagome kneels down next to him with a first aid kit. Kaede is walking down a path with a group of children telling them that she wished that InuYasha and Kagome would get along better. The children then see Kagome sitting on top of InuYasha, trying to mend his wounds and trying to get him to take off his clothes so she can treat the wounds. Kaede stands in front of the children telling them not to look. InuYasha and Kagome see them and InuYasha stands up, throwing Kagome off him. He pulls his shirt down and shows them his chest and that his wound has healed. Kaede says that he's a half-demon so his wounds heal faster than a normal human's would. InuYasha feels a pinch, looks down on his chest and sees a flea sucking blood. InuYasha recognizes him as Myoga. Kagome gets out her bug spray and sprays Myoga, but then realizes that she shouldn't have done that.
At Kaede's hut, Myoga tells InuYasha that someone is trying to dig up his father's grave. Myoga tells InuYasha that the place he was protecting was only the gravestone, but the actual grave where his father lies, is somewhere else. InuYasha's father was a great demon of the Kyushu area, but InuYasha doesn't remember him, at all. Kagome then asks about his mother and Myoga says that she was a beautiful woman. He gets smashed into the ground by InuYasha who leaves, angrily, saying that his mother had died a long time ago. Kagome wonders if she had said anything wrong and Myoga says that InuYasha always acts that way when someone asks him about his mother.
Later that night, InuYasha is sitting on a branch of a tree. Kagome is riding her bike toward the tree and stops when she suddenly realizes that InuYasha is only a half-demon and that his other half is human. His father was a demon but his mother was human. She begins to wonder if InuYasha hates his mother because she was human.
Just then, a strong wind picks up and InuYasha jumps quickly out of the tree and presses Kagome to the ground, telling her to get down. He asks her if she can feel an evil aura. They look up at the sky, seeing a black carriage with a chained woman inside it. InuYasha sees her and walks forward a few steps saying, "Mother". The woman calls out to him as her chains begin to tighten. A giant three-fingered hand comes out of the clouds and grabs the carriage and crushes it. Glowing red eyes appear out of nowhere and a huge demon shows itself, holding onto InuYasha's mother. InuYasha leaps to save his mother, but a stream of fire is shot at him. He dodges it and another attack comes again, but he dodges it, again. Jaken is there, lowering his Staff of Two Heads as InuYasha lands on the ground. Sesshomaru's voice is heard from the demon's shoulder and tells Jaken that he can kill InuYasha after he has had a word with him. InuYasha recognizes him as his older brother, Sesshomaru.
Kagome is surprised that InuYasha has an older brother and that he's here. Sesshomaru spots Kagome and recognizes her as human. Kagome stands up and gets behind InuYasha. Sesshomaru states that it's fitting for InuYasha to be with a human since he is half-human. He says it's shame for his family. Sesshomaru questions him about where their father's grave is, but he doesn't know where it is. InuYasha says to him that he has no clue where it is or even how to find it. InuYasha says that even if he knew, he wouldn't tell Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru tells him that his mother is going to have to suffer and hits the demon with his whip. The demon then squeezes InuYasha's mother. InuYasha tells him that his mother died that he can't be tricked with a fake mother. But Jaken informs InuYasha that bringing someone back from the dead from the realm of the nether world is a simple task for Sesshomaru. A shocked InuYasha begins to think that she really is his mother. His mother, with a weak voice, tells him that it's all right, and that she has already died . InuYasha charges at the demon cutting off the hand using his claws. Kagome runs to his mother and InuYasha tells her to take his mother with her and get out. But Sesshomaru wasn't going to let them get away and his whip reappears and he whips the demon again telling it to reach for InuYasha, Kagome, and InuYasha's mother. InuYasha jumps forward, attacks the demon from behind and then a glowing orb appears in InuYasha's mother's hands and gets bigger, engulfing all of them. A sudden flash of light becomes too bright for Sesshomaru to watch and he covers his eyes under his sleeve. InuYasha, Kagome, and InuYasha's mother have disappeared and Jaken says that things are going fine and Sesshomaru should leave the rest to him. Sesshomaru tells him that if he fails this time, he'll kill Jaken.
Next, we see InuYasha is lying on the grass at some misty place. Kagome is lying next to him and a pond is near them. InuYasha doesn't know where he is and his mother comes in, telling him that they are in the boundary between the mortal world and the world of the dead. His mother walks away and InuYasha follows her, not even noticing that Kagome is there. His mother apologizes for leaving him all alone. Kagome opens her eyes and sees Inuyasha talking to his mother but finds out that she can't move. She stares into the pond and the reflection of InuYasha and his mother. But the reflection of his mother doesn't have a face and she tries to yell out to InuYasha but for some reason, she can't speak.
