In the Japanese, Sango never calls Miroku by his real name. She calls him "Houshi-sama", which more or less is just calling him "Monk", which is what someone would traditionally do if they don't know or trust someone very much. Even as their relationship becomes closer, she continues to call him this.

The reason Sango calls Miroku "Houshi-sama" is because it's a sign of respect.

It's amazing that Inuyasha knows what the word atmosphere means.
