Invasion creator makes new deal
Colin Mahan

The invasion has ended, but its mastermind is hatching more plans. Shaun Cassidy, who most recently created the canceled ABC sci-fi drama Invasion, has signed a new deal with Touchstone TV. The two-year deal with a third-year option is in the seven-figure range, according to Variety. "Shaun has continually engaged ...

Surface

Mondays at 8 p.m.

Considered to be one of the many probable Lost clones, NBC's Surface is the network's big-budget action-adventure gamble. It was originally titled Fathom, but was changed after an unknown entity (much like the show's monster) threatened to sue. A likely guess is that it was the guys who make the comic Fathom, but no one knows for sure. In any case, the trailers look promising, with Firefly-esque high-quality visuals and flair.

High budget sci-fi has always been a gamble for the big networks, but the success of Lost has everyone outside of ABC trying to play "me too." With a serial story that promises to be more character- than event-driven, though, Surface is likely to be a winner.

Invasion actress invades pilot

Lisa Sheridan, last seen in ABC's sci-fi series Invasion, is returning to TV. The actress will play the lead in a thriller pilot for Lifetime titled Conspiracy.

Conspiracy will follow an idealistic young lawyer who comes to realize the Washington, DC, law firm she works for is secretly falsifying documents and helping guilty corporations escape justice. Producer Garry Randall says the series will be "a John Grisham-esque thriller" and hopes it will attract a big following.

"We think...that with the right leading lady, this could be a tentpole show for Lifetime," he said.

Sheridan starred as Larkin Groves on the ABC cult series Invasion, which detailed aliens from outer space slowly taking over a small Florida town. In the series finale, the character of Groves was mortally wounded and possibly revived using alien technology. The expensive drama premiered in 2005 to decent numbers in the post-Lost time ...

Prison Break chief promises action
summerpresstour.jpg

LOS ANGELES--Last year it was Fox's Break out hit. This season, will new fans come aboard?

That was the question put to Paul Scheuring, executive producer of Fox's Prison Break. Speaking this week at the TV Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, California, Scheuring said that he is confident new fans can catch up.

"We purposely constructed the first episode [of season two] in a way that you can catch up with everything," Scheuring told the assembled TV press. "Certainly, the first season informs the second very very much."

Scheuring said returning viewers should expect to see the prison, even though the convicts escaped at the end of season one.

"We will see the prison, there are some dynamics there that are not yet finished," he said. "[But] the prison really starts to fade away."

He added ...

Fichtner invades Prison Break

The Invasion is continuing--at least for William Fichtner.

The actor who played a creepy sheriff in the canceled ABC sci-fi series Invasion is stepping into the role of a federal agent in Fox's Prison Break. Fichtner's character will hunt down Michael and Lincoln (Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell) in season two of the hit action-drama.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fichtner's dance card is full. The actor is starring in an upcoming DreamWorks film titled Blades of Glory, and the Prison Break production had to postpone filming while they waited for him to finish working on the movie.

On Invasion, Fichtner starred as Sheriff Tom Underlay, a human who may or may not have been taken over by an alien race called The Hybrids. The show landed last season in the time slot behind hit Lost, but never attained the ratings ABC wanted. The final episode of ...

Man has searched the skies for centuries and has never come up with conclusive evidence to prove the existence of other forms of intelligent life. What if we have been looking in the wrong place? What if there were other forms of intelligent life already living among us? What if perceived natural disasters were really diversions created to conceal clandestine alien activities? What if is no longer an if. When a small town at the edge of the Florida Everglades is threatened by a raging hurricane, U.S. Park Ranger Russell Varon must go to great lengths to protect the small community and his family safe. During the storm his young daughter claims to have seen mysterious lights, seemingly unaffected by the gale-force winds, floating near the water. Varon dismisses the sighting, but begins to wonder if there really was some truth to the story after his missing ex-wife turns up naked and her memory of the storm is completely gone.
