Invasion

At one point in this episode, Dave says he expected the survivors group to be a bunch of 'Kool Aid drinkers'. This is a reference to the murder/suicide of over 900 members of the Peoples Temple, at Jonestown. This is when the Peoples Temple, established an agricultural project. They were a religious group based in California which moved to Guyana in the late 1970s to establish a religious utopia. On November 18, 1978 a U.S. Congressman was assasinated, along with four other individuals, at a jungle airstrip; these tragic killings were followed by the mass suicides/murders of 900 men, women, and children by ingesting potassium cyanide mixed into a vat of punch (Kool-Aid) and tranquilizers.

Dave repeatedly refers to the survivors group, as Pod People. This is a reference to the 1956 movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers about a small-town community where people start to be replaced by alien duplicates. The movie was also remade in 1978.

Dave refers to the Village of the Damned. Village of the Damned is a Sci-Fi Horror movie that was originally released in 1960. John Carpenter remade the movie in 1995.
