Episode Recap

A new woman speaks at the survivors meeting in the church. Afterward, her husband arrives and yells at her for hanging around those "losers." He drags her to the car. The other survivors throw the man down to the ground and begin kicking him. Father Scanlon and other survivors watch, mesmerized. Only Mariel screams for everyone to stop. She yells for someone to call 911, but no one does.

Russell wants to show Mariel something.

Underlay brings Deputy Lewis Sirk to his home to recuperate. He asks Kira to take care of Sirk. Underlay explains the problem that would exist if Sirk had appeared with a new arm.

At a small hotel away from Homestead, Larkin, Jesse and Rose are relaxing by the pool. Jesse hasn't been feeling well. "Any food on a stick is not to be trusted." Rose asks for some quarters so she can dive for them in the pool. Jesse throws some in, but the pool is too deep for Rose. A mysterious young woman dives in and retrieves them. She doesn't appear to need much air.

Russell and Dave show Tom's skeleton to Mariel, including the remains of one of the unknown creatures. Dave explains that the lights inject DNA and create a hybrid, "half us, half them." Mariel reacts poorly to the display and thinks Russell is trying to break apart her marriage to Tom and take away their children.

Jesse gets a chance to talk to the woman at the pool alone when Larkin takes Rose out to go shopping. Emily, the name of the woman, suggests that they go up to Jesse's room.

Mariel confronts Tom about the events during the night of the hurricane. Tom says that he will not only tell her everything. He will show her everything.

Emily wants to take a bath with Jesse. Jesse says that he doesn't even know her. Emily asks who he really knows. He may not know his own family. Jesse says that she is weird. She was from Gainesville, but not anymore. She was a Phi Gamma Gator Girl from the University of Florida (U of F).

The running water mesmerizes Sirk as Kira rinses a glass in the sink. Sirk begins to tell Kira about God. Sirk says that Tom would have told her about God and taught her about faith. Kira is skeptical that Tom Underlay believes in God. She thinks that Tom would prefer that people treat him as a god. Sirk comes to the realization that he has followed someone who doesn't have a deep faith. He lost his arm because Tom manipulated him. "I've lost my way," Sirk says while he's in Rose's room with the toys and purple boa over the mirror. "I've sinned...God gave me the most beautiful gift and I threw it away."

Russell talks to Father Scanlon about the survivors group and the incident that morning. Father Scanlon says that only Mariel tried to protect the man. The others either participated or looked on passively.

Tom brings Mariel out to the grove. During the hurricane, Tom had brought Mariel out there. He had seen the lights when his plane crashed. He wanted her to see the same lights during the hurricane. He claims that the lights came and took Mariel away, that he was helpless to stop them. Mariel recoils in horror from him. Mariel realizes that Tom had brought her there for the express purpose of being transformed by the lights. "Whatever is happening to me, I'm going to fight it!" Tom screams that she can't leave him.

Emily and Jesse are in the bathtub. Jesse comes up for air. Emily can hold her breath for an extremely long time. We find out that Jesse is still a virgin. Emily says that sororities are so clique-y and that once someone changes, they are no longer wanted. Everyone is either us or them. Jesse says that he's always been a "them." Emily kisses Jesse.

Larkin and Rose knock at the door. Jesse asks Emily to leave through the other door. They kiss again. Jesse finally opens the other door. As they walk by the table, we see a folded newspaper that describes four sorority sisters from the University of Florida who drowned, but one of the women is still missing. Emily's picture appears next to the story.

Tom looks for Mariel at home. She's gone. Lewis Sirk is gone too. Kira said that Sirk had confessed to her. He became upset when he realized that Tom wasn't a man of faith. He spoke of the Biblical story of Abraham and Isaac. God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, but released Abraham from this requirement. Lewis thought Tom was like Abraham, but now he realizes that Tom's just a regular person. Tom calls someone about putting the "plan" into motion.

Russell sees Mariel's car. She walks out of the house. He says he wants to help her. She says he just wants to take her children away. "Part of me is still here." The part that loves her children. The part that used to love Russell. She looks at Russell and they begin to kiss.

Russell returns home late at night. Dave wrapped up the skeleton. Russell thinks they should bury it because he's no longer sure what the transformation means. He sees candles placed throughout the house and finds Larkin naked in bed. He asks where Jesse and Rose are. She dropped them off at the Underlay's house. Tom said they had plans. Russell races out of the house in a panic.

Mariel can't find the kids. She finds a note. Russell enters the house and asks about Jesse and Rose. Mariel says that Tom took the kids. As they scramble to plan a course of action, the camera focuses on the locked door.
