Tony Stark, makes you feel He's the cool exec With a heart of steel As Iron Man all jets a-blaze He's fighting and smiting with repulsor rays Amazing armor, it's Iron Man A blaze of power, It's Iron Man! The Invincible Iron Man follows the adventures of Tony Stark, a playboy and weapons designer who made his fortune designing weapons for the U.S. government. While in Vietnam he was injured in an explosion and shrapnel embedded in his chest near his heart. Captured by a local Communist warlord, Stark managed to design a transistorized suit of armor that not only gave him a portable life support unit for his heart but contained a number of miniaturized weapons, as well as providing him with enhanced strength and protection. After escaping, Stark returned to the U.S. and pretended to be his own anonymous bodyguard. As "Iron Man," Stark battled Ultimo, the Black Knight, and the Crimson Dynamo, but his primary opponent was the Mandarin, a Chinese warlord who wielded ten alien power rings and was a master of karate. As Tony Stark, his assistants were secretary Virginia "Pepper" Potts and bodyguard/chauffeur Harold "Happy" Hogan. The thirteen episodes were adapted from Iron Man's run in Tales of Suspense - various issues from approximately #40 to #88. The animation was similar to the comics and duplicated the artistic style of famed penciller Don Heck. Each episode was made up of three 6-minute segments, and in syndication often aired either on separate days, or on various one-hour afternoon kid shows as filler between the host's regular routines. This series was aired as part of The Marvel Superheroes.moreless

  • Based on the Marvel's comics of the hero Iron Man and his adventures.

Probably my first - and the last - cartoon I've watched from this era.

I am yet to get into reading the Iron Man comics, but when I watched the cartoon episodes, I could see how those could have been taken directly from a comic.

If we skip the rather faltering animation (hey, this is a 1966 show we're talking about, and they did things differently back then), we get into what the show is like.

The storytelling is trippy at best. It jumps from one thing to another, explains rather than shows (again, this might be a quirk of the shows of that era). Knowing what kind of stories the writers of Marvel com-ics are able to sketch, it is almost a shame to see them killed this way.

There is no character depth, and each episode seems very hurried.

All in all, this show was a rather amusing thing to watch a horrid comical relief to a modern age's child.moreless
  • Nostalgia, I hope to see a good animated Iron-man as good as this in sometime

In this time with the complete 60's series of spider-man and Hulk episodes i the DVD maybe noone remembers of Iron-man, a masterpiece for its age, and a darker story, with a song so representative and plots simples but interesants it's fun to see the cartoon and feel a lil of that Cold War fear in the air, because man this was a very politic show if you can see it deeply, I'm just looking forward for the DVD, one DVD I must have.moreless
  • Classic is often another word for "outdated" as in this case. Yet, that doesn't mean this is a bad show. While the animation and sound quality really show its age, the show is so true to the dark nature of the comic book that it scores major points.moreless

Classic is often another word for "outdated" as in this case. Yet, that doesn't mean this is a bad show. While the animation and sound quality really show its age, the show is so true to the dark nature of the comic book that it scores major points with all nerds geeks and fans like myself. The storylines are great and deal not only with Iron Man, but the emotional life of the man behind the mask, Tony Stark. Thus, when deciding if this show is for you you must weigh the great stories and trueness to the comics against the awful and outdated animation style of the 60's.

My final review: By no means a work of art, but it is something definately worth watching if you can stomach the aged style (especially for comic book fans).moreless
  • "The Invicible Iron Man" was the 1966 animated cartoon series by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby which featured one of the first comic book contributions as a director from world famous Ralph Bakshi.moreless

    "Fair"
The show followed the adventures of rich socialist and scientist Anthony "Tony" Stark who leads a double life as a crime fighter known as "Iron Man". Very much like Bruce
Wayne, Stark was a "player" who enjoyed the best things in life such as fast cars, and women

This is the first show I edited for Tvtome.com
, while the show is rather dated, one can
see how Stan Lee tried to break out of his
usual comic routines with the Hulk and Spiderman
by giving us a slightly more conservative
    character in Tony Stark.

The animation is typical Marvel, rather slow
but effective at times drawing frames of animation
very much like a comic book. The animation
then provided a familiar styles for fans to
follow and observe the action. There were
a couple of good moral issues in the show as
well like a typical Marvel cartoon.moreless
