Tony is nearly killed at least twice and the trail leads back to Justin Hammer, which means the Mandarin is up to something. As always, he wants Iron Man's armor, but his motives this time are murky. Fing Fang Foom and four well-known industrialists are also somehow involved. When Tony's plane is suddenly blown out of the sky, M.O.D.O.K. acquires Iron Man's armor torso. This and an alliance with Fing Fang Foom will supposedly give the Mandarin control of the world, but the dragon has an agenda of his own. The fate of the world ends up depending on both Iron Man and the Mandarin, but victory won't come without heavy prices for both.moreless

      • Ed Gilbert no longer voices Mandarin here. Instead, Robert Ito voices him in this season. There was also a recasting in the voices of the Force Works members except for Hawkeye's VA. Also, Neil Ross voices Blizzard here (possibly because Chuck McCann wasn't available to work on this episode).

      • During the opening credits theme while Tony Stark is at the anvil "creating" his armor when he strikes with the hammer you can see flashes of Iron Man's previous armors, including the original gray Mark I and the Silver Centurion armor

      • First appearance of Nick Fury.

      • Tony's spinal injury from the first season seems to have been retconned and turned into the heart problems he suffers from the comics.

      • First Appearence of HOMER.

      • Final appearence of Fin Fang Foom, presumably destroyed along with the other dragons and their gateway.

      • Hipnotia ,Blizzard ,Whirlwind and Blacklash are the only Mandarin's thugs who left in his service because the other's were presumably arrested.

      • An explosion scatters the Mandarin's rings across the globe and leaves him powerless. He spends most of the second season retrieving each of his rings, leaving Iron Man to face new opponents on a frequent basis.

      • Force Works disbands upon learning that Stark deceived even them in faking his own death to lay a trap for the Dragons (they would frequently guest star in later episodes of the season). Only Spider-Woman and War Machine remain at Stark's side.

      • Starting with the second season, Marvel Productions switched animation houses and the series got a new look, feel and direction.
