  • Thoroughly enjoyable.

    9.9
One of the best I've seen so far. Everything seemed to come together in this one: 1)a fine script in which Ironside must sift through a number of deceptive stories/alibis; 2)a sharp piece of detective work interpreting nautical information displayed on a magazine cover photo and; 3) a cast which, after 5 episodes, has become very comfortable working together.

On point number 3, throughout the first several episodes the regular cast members at times seem uncomfortable with each other. In this one they are relaxed and working as a cohesive unit. Earlier scripts sometimes had Raymond Burr talking down to his coworkers as if they were fresh out of grade school, which I found very annoying. Now, the scripts have dropped that habit and Ironside and Mark and the detectives function as a well-oiled professional team. This, of course, makes the episodes much more pleasant to watch.

All in all, a great episode. I look forward to viewing the rest of them with more than a little anticipation.moreless

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Ironside: If I believed that Andy was still on the take.
Commissioner: Two and two still add up to four, Bob.
Ironside: I never was good at certain kinds of arithmetic.

    • Ed: I couldn't find any record of any threats or anything like that.
Ironside: People who threaten to get even hardly ever try to follow through when they get out of jail.
      Ed: It only takes one.
      Ironside: True.

    • Mark: I drink during the day and I'm shiftless. You belt one down with a beautiful doll and it's all in the line of duty.
Ironside: I couldn't phrase it better myself.
      Eve: How'd it go?
Mark: Here he is: blind, roaring drunk!
Eve: I knew we shouldn't have let him see that woman alone.
Ironside: When the general hilarity subsides, I'd like to get back to business.

    • Commissioner: You're going over a lot of plowed ground.
Ironside: The deeper the furrow, the straighter the stalk.
      Commissioner: Who said that?
      Ironside: I did!

    • Adrienne May: Would you like a drink?
Ironside: Why, thank you. Straight please, on the rocks. One of the benefits of my unofficial status is that I can drink during working hours. Always did anyway if I felt like it, but now I have the virtuous feeling that I'm not breaking any rules.

    • Mark: How's the coffee this morning? Any better?
Ironside: Any reasonably competent judge would send you back to jail for this coffee.
