Ashley Callie was a very popular South African actress who was best known for her role as Leonie Haines in the soap Isidingo.
Ashley Callie was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. She studied a BA (Hons) Dramatic Arts at the Wits University in Johannesburg. This is the same school (and course) studied by both Langley Kirkwood and Brendan Pollecutt although they would have attended approximately three years before Ashley.
After graduation, Ashley spent time in both London and Cape Town. In Cape Town, she did a string of commercials which were used both locally in South Africa and internationally as well.
Ashley started her career in television in Homeland. This was a political drama directed by Neil Sundstrom that was lambasted by the local critics for being "too politically correct". It tried to portray the varying experiences that white South Africans had during Apartheid.
Despite the poor critical reviews, Ashley got much needed exposure and went on to star in several series, the most notable of which was Natural Rhythm.
Ashley joined the cast of Isidingo in 2002. She starred as Leonie (Lee) Haines who was the daughter of the new mine manager, Barker. Her brother, Duncan, was famously murdered by Barker's new wife, Cherel, and it took years for the truth about that to emerge. When talking about her role as Lee, Ashley said she was nothing like her. She said that Lee was shrewd, calculating and ambitious but was essentially alone in the world and too rigid.
Her role as Lee Haines was Ashley the Best Actress in a Soapie category at the first South African Film and Television Awards in October, 2006. A talented stage actress too, Ashley won the Best Actress in a Comedy award at the Vitas for her performance in Pieter Toerien's Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight in 2005. She is currently nominated for the Mzanzi Star Actress award.
Ashley was co-owner of the La Vista social club in Melville, Johannesburg.
On 8 February 2008, Ashley was involved in a head-on collision on Tana Road, Emmerentia, Johannesburg. She experienced massive head injuries and underwent brain surgery. On 15 January 2008 she passed away from her injuries.moreless

Brandon Auret was born in Springs, South Africa which is a mining and industrial town south-east of Johannesburg. He is half-Scottish, half-French but most of all, he is South African. Brandon studied a three-year Diploma in Dramatic Arts at Pretoria Technikon and worked hard in theatre before he got his big break in television, as the beloved Leon du Plessis in Isidingo: The Need. He emerged into the world of theatre with a role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and following this starred in The Buddy Holly Story for about five years. His role on Isidingo: The Need was meant to be a temporary one - he was originally scripted in for 12 episodes only. Luckily though, the audience loved him and his role was extended. Around this time, he was starring in The Doowah Boys alongside Emmanuel Castis, who plays Steve Stetarkis in Isidingo. With him being on stage and on screen, it suddenly seemed as though he was everywhere, and so we knew that Brandon Auret had arrived. Brandon appeared on Cosmopolitan magazine's 2006 Sexiest SA Men calendar and is married to Lee Rath (Amanda the profiler on Isidingo) since 2004.moreless
