Yes! This made it into top 20! I love this episode and the way it was adapted from Rob, Charlie, and Glenn's original pilot from It's Always Sunny On TV. It really was an episode that fully shows where all three ideas were deriving from and how it was fully captured to the changes of the new directions it needed to take. My favorite of season 1, and it definitely defeats many episodes that come out nowadays because this was in many first episode created and formed from the minds of geniuses.moreless
  • Charlie finds a horrible way to get with the Waitress

    8.0
According to the interviews this was the first episode the cast came up with. I would say this week's all-star is probably Dennis. And may I say, Dennis would be an awful friend. He doesn't stick around to talk to Charlie about the cancer (even though he doesn't have it), but he also sleeps with the Waitress and agrees to not have Dee help if she gets a stripper for the bar. Who happens to be a long time minor character Artemis. This also introduces us to Mac having a thing for the tranny. A good episode that has Charlie do one of the most absurd things, lie about having cancer.moreless

A really great episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia here. There are some people that are rating this show or episode badly based on the controversial topics that it touches on and makes comedic, well news flash, that's what this whole show is about. So I wouldn't think rating an episode badly because it's wrong to lie about cancer is very fair. Yes it's wrong, but this is a TV show.

Anyways all seriousness aside, this was a hilarious episode of It's Always Sunny and it worked in so many levels. I'm always enticed and laughing when I watch an episode of this show and this episode is no different. From Mac sleeping with a tranny to Charlie pretending to have cancer to get laid, this was a hilarious episode.

Although the plots didn't come together at the exact same time, it was a great ending with Dee punching Mac in the face. Overall, great funny episode. Season 1 continues to be flawless.moreless
  • Charlie might have Cancer, but do Mac, Dennis or Dee even care?

    10
The gang learns that Charlie might have cancer and hatches a shallow-minded plan to alleviate his anguish. However, there is more to Charlie's diagnosis than meets the eye. Meanwhile, Mac proves himself a narcissist when he gets involved with a Transvestite to satisfy himself. Throughout this episode, it seems as if Mac, Dennis and Sweet Dee don't seem all too concerned about Charlie's potentially life-threatening diagnosis. This particular episode show the gang at their most pathetic - something that makes the show hilarious. The vanity that Mac, Dennis and Dee show is hysterical, irrational, and downright funny as hell. Definite favorite of mine!moreless
  • The gang finds out that Charlie has cancer and the guys try to find a woman to sleep with him, settling on the waitress. Mac starts a "friendship" with a hot transsexual while Dee tries to find cheap help at the bar.moreless

Up until this point, I felt Charlie had the best storylines and acting. This episode, however, shows the finer points of Mac. He is what makes this episode as good as it is.

Charlie confides in Dennis that he has cancer, which he then tells Mac and Dee. The guys decide to get Charlie something he never gets (laid) and decide to go after the waitress. In the process, Mac meets Carmen, a gorgeous transsexual, here played by Brittany Daniels (Dawsons Creek, That 80's Show), and falls for her/him. In the process of trying woo her into going out with Charlie, Dennis sleeps with the waitress. Mac, however, is able to convince her to sleep with Charlie anyway ... for $250. Charlie later reveals that he was lying in order for Dennis to get the waitress to go out with him, but reveals she didn't sleep with him. As for Mac, he accidentally hit Carmen and was chased by a group of guys for the act. The episode ends with Dennis and Mac trying to get their money back from the waitress, who doesn't relent.

I felt that the main storyline was good, but not great. Charlie did some wonderful somber acting for sure, but I still think I am not a big fan of Dennis unless the others are ripping on him. Mac's storyline, however, was hilarious. His comments and the looks of shame that he gives are classic. They are what make this episode stand out. I feel this one is a bit better than the previous episode dealing with the prom, but only by a little.moreless
