  • #1 Sunny Fan Review: #55

    8.0
I have decided to put together all the Sunny episodes and order them from best to worst. This episode was #55 on my list because it can't overpower any of the new episodes in hindsight but it definitely paved way for previous controversial topics that turn into and get played into as jokes later on. This episode really is a sight for the core Sunny fans but I would not suggest this to newcomers. I also thought Billy's father would come back in the Reunion episode in season 7, but I was wrong.moreless
  • The funny episode that sheds another controversial topic

    9.0
The gang is at it again. This week's topic- Abortion. Charlie finds out he is a father, Mac & Dennis pick up chicks at an abortion clinic, and Dee helps along the way. The all-star this week is Charlie. Mac & Dennis story line was funny but Charlie with the kid kept me laughing. A funny episode that continues to show you just how awful these people are.

Definitely not as amazing as the first episode, but this show has some serious potential. From having a very controversial topic in the first episode of this show such as homosexuality and racism, we get another controversial topic: abortion. This show crosses all of the lines, which makes this episode amazingly blunt about these sort of things.

I noticed something different in the earlier episodes of this show. These episodes lately have been ending with Dennis getting screwed over in the end, but in the later seasons, it's Dee getting screwed over, I love both formats, but I think I like this one a bit more. All the plots were fantastic and they managed to tie in together like they did in the last episode.

From Mac getting being pro-life just to meet girls to Charlie meeting his son, not really, but then he uses the kid to get with the waitress, and then he ends up getting drunk while everyone else is at the abortion rally. Just a great episode overall, with nonstop laughter. This is the show you should be watching.moreless
  • A girl from Charlie's past reveals they have a child.

    9.5
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is an innovative comedy that is unlike any other show on television. They have unique storylines every week, and are not afraid to go outside the "norm" for a sitcom.

This episode is by far the funniest of the series, and is what you should show any potential fan to get them interested in the show. Dennis' reaction to the woman at the free health clinic offering him a blowjob was priceless. "I'm gonna consult the free literature they have on that topic. Oh, according to this that's not a good idea."

Mac pretending to be a pro-life supporter was also great, but then realized that he felt the need for his girlfriend to get an abortion in the end.

Whether you agree with abortion or not, this episode shows that there are flaws in both points of view. And it does it in a very funny way.moreless
  • Another great one!

    9.8
Charlie is skeptical and nervous when a girl from his past reveals that he is the father of their child. Though their time spent together is initially disastrous, Charlie finds an unexpected perk in acting as the brat's father. Meanwhile, Mac becomes more serious about pro-life causes when he realizes his passion for this viewpoint might get him laid. Dennis sinks to an equally low level as he uses an abortion rally as a forum for meeting chicks. Yet another episode where they push all the boundaries of normal television and so called 'taboo' topics, and, it turns into one of the best 23 minutes of television you'll see.moreless

    • Dee: Where is this rally being held?
Mac: Uh... Planned Parenthood - Bryn Mawr Medical Center.
Dee: Well, I'm gonna go. At least one pro-choice voice is gonna be heard.
Mac: One? There was like tons of those chicks at the last one.
      Dennis: Which side had more?
Dee: Oh, which one do you think? The one that cares about protecting women's bodies or the one that's run by the religious right?
Dennis: Probably the side you're going to. I'm gonna fight for the right to choose.
      Dee: You're a scumbag, Dennis.

    • Dee: Charlie, what in the hell are you going to do if this kid is yours?
Charlie: Oh, I don't know, I'd probably, uh, kill myself.

    • Mac: You know, Den, I was thinking about what you were saying the other day about the t-shirts with the stupid slogans on them, and I was wondering what you think about this! (reveals a shirt that says "Death to baby killers") Huh, bitch? Yeah, is that stupid enough for ya?

    • Tommy: You have to buy me a toy.
Charlie: I don't have to buy you shit.
Tommy: If you don't buy me anything, I'm going to tell my mom you took me to a black people's house.
      Dee: Okay.
Charlie: Wow! Oh, my God! That's racist. What do you, what do you say to that?
Tommy: You still have to buy me a toy!

    • Charlie: Come stand next to me, then.
      Dee: Why?
Charlie: So she doesn't think I'm creepy.
      Dee: Well, you are creepy.
Charlie: I realize this. That's why I need you.

    • Charlie: Ah, I mean I wish I could go back in time and do the right thing, you know?
Dee: Like be there for her?
Charlie: No get her an abortion.

    • Dennis: So do you come to these kind of things often, or?
Pro-Choice Woman: Are you hitting on me at an abortion rally?

    • Dennis: I think all these chicks are gay.
Dee: Yeah, I don't know that they're gay; I think they can just smell how disgusting you are.

    • Charlie: I will smash your face into, into a jelly!

    • Dee: (to Charlie) Did you use birth control?
Mac: (shaking his head) Whoa, Dee. We went to Catholic school, so...
Dee: Okay, so, you're allowed to have premarital sex, but you're not allowed to use birth control?

    • Dee: (to Charlie) So, you're not allowed to use birth control, but abortions are no problem?

    • Megan: What's this?
Mac: That's a list of the doctors I'm going to kill.
Megan: There's two already crossed out.
      Mac: Yeah, I know.
(Afterwards, they proceed to have sex in a car.)

    • Tommy: You're ugly!
      Charlie: You're ugly!
      Tommy: You're ugly!
Charlie: You are the one that's ugly! You are the one that's...
Dee: Charlie, J**** C****, are you almost 30? Are you almost 30 years old?

  • NOTES (2)

    • Heather Donahue, who plays Stacy Corvelli in this episode, is perhaps best known for playing herself in the 1999 movie The Blair Witch Project, which was thought by some to have been a true story of three lost student filmmakers documenting a witch.

    • This is the final episode of the series to air on a Thursday at 10:30 pm before FX moved it to a new time slot.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Mac: I love the smell of protest in the morning.
Mac is parodying the line from the film Apocalypse Now that goes, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." Mac even tries to explain that he's quoting the movie to a girl at the Planned Parenthood rally.

    • Mac: Do you represent The Lollipop Guild, Charlie?
Mac is referring to a group of Munchkins called The Lollipop Guild from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
