This is the first time I have ever watched "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and I got to say I was impressed. In the beginning, it seems as though the episode is going nowhere, with small jokes slipped in there, that just makes you laugh a bit. But not hysterical laughing, so I wasn't too impressed in the beginning. Until all the plots started to build and then intertwine and that's when the real comedy starts! I love when 2 or 3 plots come together in the end, and this was a perfect example of it! The characters don't come off too well, but I guess that's the point. Dee being set on fire was absolutely hilarious! I can't decide who is my favorite character considering they all have their annoyances, but at this point, the characters seem insignificant to the well put together writing and plot! The whole episode overall was hysterical, and I will definitely be tuning in again to watch this great first impression of a show!
  • The It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia gang take a close look at celebrity and honesty in reporting like only they can.

After feeling disenchanted with the current state of the news industry, Mac & Charlie decide to make their own news show, free of censorship and corporate control. Frank, being incredibly bored, also decides to get in on the action. They set out as investigative reporters looking for crime and corruption. When their expose of a nursing home winds up short on substance, the trio head to Chinatown where they expect to find Tokyo drifting and people jumping from rooftop to rooftop among other ridicules stereotypes. Frustrated by the lack of action, the trio decide the best way to make great news is to stage it. Meanwhile Dennis and Sweet Dee devise a way to become famous by using the Paris Hilton model for fame. Dee, however, botches the job when she decides to get wasted before she gets into the club and ends up spending the night in a pile of garbage while Dennis meets some girls and ends up dancing the night away, high on ecstasy. Undeterred, they decide to try again the next night, but again Sweet Dee foils their plans when she oversteps her place with the bouncer and Dennis spends another night dancing into the wee hours with his new friends. Sweet Dee, disappointed that she has once again failed to get into the club, decides to join Mac, Charlie & Frank as a way to get famous unaware that their plan involves her saving kittens from a burning building. Unfortunately, Dee is no more able to pull this off than she was Dennis' plan and ends up ruining the take when she throws the kittens. When another attempt is made to save the kittens for the camera, this time from a burning well, Dee finds herself no more able to hold on to the kittens and the gang are again left with nothing. Dennis, now having built up a reputation on the club scene, is finally able to get Dee into the club but the whole thing falls apart after the two are caught in a compromising situation.

While not quite up to the quality of some other episodes, Frank Sets Sweet Dee On Fire is far more enjoyable than most other television shows and is only brought down by the weight of expectation. Charlie is again exceptional in this episode and the image of a burning Sweet Dee throwing a box of kittens is priceless.
