  • Jade is less annoying as a monkey.

Jade is embarassed after Jackie's boring performance on Career Day, though it's her lucky day as he has to take her along to go talisman hunting. Jade quickly finds the monkey talisman, but expectedly, the Dark Hand aren't far behind. The ship they fight on gets totalled, and everyone on board got shipwrecked to a near by island. Jade was separated from Jackie, but gets discovered by the Dark Hand. Though she quickly turns herself into a monkey, but another monkey takes it, making her unable to change back. Jackie finds the other monkey, and tries taking the talisman, but the Dark Hand like always, are on his tail. Jade changes her back, and a battle of animal changing between the two sides erupts. Though in the end, Jade was able to get her monkey side of her family to aid her.

Extremely amusing and fun episode. It would have been a little more fun if this idea was expanded on, because I'm one who digs shipwrecked episodes, but it's not like this episode disappointed. It was pretty funny seeing Jade getting mistaken as one of the mother monkies' children, and getting treated as if she was a monkey herself. That other monkey was pretty cute too; I wish they had kept him. Even though there isn't much fighting, the series of animal shifting between the characters were good enough to make up for it. It was funny seeing Jackie being turned into a kangaroo, or Tohru into an elephant, or Ratso into a rat. The underwater fight wasn't really entertaining on the action level, but it delivered on the amusing one.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Jade was able to transform a piece of wood into a living breathing animal. Where as in other episodes, people who attempted transforming objects, only transformed the object into the shape of the called out animal. For example, when Shendu transformed a statue and Jade transformed a boulder.

  • QUOTES (4)

  • NOTES (3)

    • Talisman: Monkey
Found underwater in Micronesia. Has the power to animorph.

    • Uncle doesn't appear in this episode. As a regular character, at least. He just appears in two dream sequences. First, when Jade was daydreaming in class at the beginning. Then, after the shipwreck on the island when Jackie was unconscious on the beach and Uncle talks to him while he's dreaming.

    • There are definite hints of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" in this episode.
