Episode Summary

EDIT
Force Recon
AIRED:

Harm goes undercover as a Marine gunnery sergeant to help Mac in her investigation of questionable Marine training methods and becomes a victim of unsafe maneuvers himself. While undercover, Harm learns that the tough-as-nails officer in charge of Force Recon training, Capt. Koonan, introduces unexpected problems into the training missions as a means of teaching the men to react quickly to surprises during combat. In addition to testing the Marines' mettle, the method also doubles their chances of returning safely from combat. However, in the mission in which Harm is involved, the method backfires dramatically, leaving five men trapped in a training maneuver destined for a disaster that even Capt. Koonan can't reverse, and it's up to Harm to get the trainees -- and himself -- out safely.

  • Harm a marine...INTERESTING!!

    9.3
I chose the classification Out of Character because of Harm! He goes undercover as a marine! He looks very good in camo!! lol! This was a very good episode! Interesting all the way through! I enjoyed all of it! There really wasnt a boring part at all! All of the actors (guest starring ones) were very good and they all act very well! There were a few minor mistakes on how you could see workers in the background when that beam was about to fall and when Harm put his hand on the beam right before he tried to lift it for the first time, the beam wiggled so you could very obviously tell that it was a very easy-to-move beam ;) But otherwise this was a fantastic episode!moreless
  • Another entertaining hour from Don P. Bellisario

    9.2
I was rather apprehensive when i read the information for this episode but as it's JAG I gave it a go and was rather suprised. With Harm and Mac in it it's bound to be good, but I thought that the way Harm handled himself as a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps were brilliant. Kinda reminded me of Gibbs, although obviously nothing could come very close to him. I haven't seen Catherine Bell in much since the end of JAG so watching repeats is pretty much the only chance to see her.

All of the characters in this show work so well, even Turner, that it is understandable to see why this show went on for as long as it did. The hostilities between the different branches of the Armed Forces were acted out very well and as a whole the plotline for this episode was very good. A good episode.moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Right after Harm says that the radio is broken and moves over to try to lift the beam up, when he holds onto the beam it shifts back and forth, indicating that the beam was very lightweight.

    • In the shot where Tesla throws down the rags, turns, and walks into the post (causing the beam to fall on him), a crew member -- who is holding onto another post -- can be seen on the far right edge of the shot.

    • Goof: Military personnel from any service are supposed to remove their headress when in a mess or restaurant (making the cause of whole Ranger/Force Recon fight ridiculous).

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Koonan: There's only one thing I want to know, Gunnery Sergeant. How did my men perform?
      Harm: Outstanding, sir.
      Koonan: No rangers?
      First Sergeant: No rangers.
Koonan: Well, how can that be, Gunnery Sergeant? There were six of my men in the brig, and no rangers. Why were there no rangers in the brig?
Harm: Rangers are in Sick Bay, sir.

    • Captain Koonan: (seeing Harm in his Navy uniform) I like you better in camis.
      Harm: I enjoyed wearing them.
Captain Koonan: You were a credit to the uniform. Thanks for bringing my men out, Gunny.
Harm: Well Captain, they teach you a few things in the Navy too.
