Ghost Ship
AIRED:

Harm and Mac are investigating the murder of a Navy pilot whose body was found hidden aboard the decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Hornet. With help from a local police lieutenant, they discover a motive for the crime, which involves a list of Vietnam War MIAs and POWs supposedly still alive and under KGB control in Russia -- and the list includes Harm's father. But before Harm can act on the information, the book mysteriously disappears along with the helpful police lieutenant.

  • Creepy!

    10
This is one of the creepiest, best episodes I have ever seen! I loved it! I watched it at night alone in my room and had to turn my lamp on cause it was creeping me out so much! This was a very special episode! Harm and Macs relationship grows! And this is the first time ive seen Harm cry! It was a very emotional episode! I think I would enjoy it more if I were to watch it during the say time cause it was very creepy to watch of the night! Just thinking about it makes me shiver! Also Bud and Harriet give us some comic releaf in this episode(as always)! So this is a very good episode in all! A perfect 10! Just remember to watch of the day time!:)moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Harm is listening to a tape of his father that mentions Tom Boone. Mac asks if he's the same Tom Boone who is the CAG on the Seahawk. Harm says yes, Boone was his dad's wingman. He already told Mac this during the "Crossing The Line" episode, but she acts like it's new information.

    • This episode lays the groundwork for Harm to learn that his father was transferred to Russia for the later episode "People v. Rabb" and the season ending cliffhanger.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Harm: I slept the first day, but after that, the nurse threatened to tie me down if I so much as stuck my nose out the door.
      Mac: Kinky.
      Harm: Yellow light, Major.
Mac: Oh come on, Harm, haven't we reached the point where we can drop the traffic signals?
Harm: Absolutely. Have I ever told you why a female Marine is like the Energizer Bunny?
Mac: On second thought, let's not.

    • Harm: I'll find him, Mac. I'll find him and the list if it takes the rest of my life.

    • (Discussing Harm's father)
Mac: You're hoping he's still alive.
Harm: Chances are ten million to one against it.
Mac: Well, still, someone always wins the lottery, don't they?

  • NOTES (5)

    • The USS Hornet really is reputed to be haunted, and several ghost hunting shows have investigated the carrier, including Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.

    • Michael Bellisario (son of JAG creator/executive producer Donald P. Bellisario) plays the 'tough' pizza delivery person in an uncredited role. Michael turns up a few seasons later as Mikey Roberts, Bud's younger brother, and becomes a recurring member of the cast in that role.

    • The city of Alameda, California does have the USS Hornet (CV-12) as a museum. The ship served the USA from November 29, 1943 until May 26, 1970.

    • Rex Linn returns to JAG, having previously served as the submarine skipper in the season 1 episode, "Shadow". The role of Mark Falcon and his alter ego Major Sokol will be a recurring character on the show over many further seasons.

    • This episode is dedicated to the memory of J. David Jones. Mr. Jones worked behind the camera on a number of projects, including Magnum, PI, Airwolf and on the movie Con Air. Jones passed away from lung cancer at the age of 61.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Harm: Hey, this is the Navy, Doc. We have Popeye's enlistment papers on record somewhere. Big question is where.

The cartoon character Popeye enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the 1941 animated short "The Mighty Navy."

    • Bud: Yours is not to reason why -- yours is but ... to do research.

Bud quotes a modified version of a line from Tennyson's poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade":
      Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die.
