    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • In this episode Harm teases Meg about the "hook'em horns" hand sign.

In Italy, Germany, Portugal, Brazil and Spanish-speaking countries, "horns" are a metaphor for suffering the infidelity of a partner, not limited to husbands in modern usage. The gesture of the horned hand can be used to insult the cuckold; the Italian translation, cornuto literally means horned (This sometimes causes confusion in Italians who are learning English and encounter the word horny). In some cases, "cuckolding" is a means for the husband to express same-sex desires through his wife and/or directly with the additional participant.

However, the meaning Meg meant to convey was support for her alma mater the University of Texas, which uses the "hook'em horns" to symbolize the school's mascot, a longhorn bull.

    • QUOTES (4)

      • Stick: (as Harm points a gun at him) You can't bang all of us!
Harm: I'm only aiming at you.

      • Harm: (referring to Capt. Overton and Lt. Teese) What, they dumped him on the beach where they knew he'd be in the middle of a landing? That's a little crazy, even for Marines.
(a squad of Marines in gillie suits jump out of cover and point their weapons at Harm and Meg)
        Marines: Oorah!
Meg: Nothing's too crazy for Marines!

      • Captain Overton (about the investigation): Lt. Stanford is behind this, isn't she?
Harm: A wounded Marine is behind this, Captain.

      • Captain Overton: The more they sweat in training, the less they bleed in war.

    • ALLUSIONS (4)

      • The gang member nicknamed Lefty says, "Be all that you can be" before he attempts to shoot Capt. Overton and his gun explodes in his hand. Overton snickers, "That's the ARMY slogan, Lefty!" This is indeed a former recruiting slogan for the US Army and Overton does not like people confusing the Army with the Marines. Other slogans that have been used are "An Army of One" and "Army Strong."

      • Mrs. Hanson tells her comatose son about Dennis Rodman having dyed his hair green that week. Dennis Rodman is a former NBA player. He played most notably for the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls and was known for bad behavior on the court; he once kicked a court-side photographer in the groin. Rodman frequently dyed his hair and also occasionally cross-dressed. After writing his autobiography Bad As I Wanna Be, he showed up to promote the book wearing a blond wig and a wedding dress. After his basketball career was over he did some acting in action movies such as Jean Claude Van Damme's Double Team and the TV show Special Ops Force.

      • When Harm and Meg suggest that the dead Marine was a victim of a Code Red, Captain Overton says that only happens in the movies. The term "Code Red" was popularized in the 1992 movie A Few Good Men.

      • One of the gang members keeps calling Harm "Top Gun." Apparently Harm reminds him of Tom Cruise's character (Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell) in the movie of the same name.
