Wonderfully subtle psychological insights about romantic relationships.

The therapy session between Mac and Lt. Commander McCool, the Navy shrink, was some of the best writing ever broadcast on commercial television, and rivals the therapy sessions between Tony Soprano and Dr. Melfi in "The Sopranos."

It was so much better than the episodes excusing the murder of non-combatants in foreign nations as "collateral damage."
  • this is why i exist.... to see my show. JAG!

this episode was exactly why i see this series. i hate the fact that mac got into a accident but what better way to get mac and harm together. i always wish more would happen in each episode i watch, but im nor the writer or director. the part where she whispers harm's name over and over again. she can't even know what just happened to her she was in a head-on collision with a tree... she should'nt have ("lived" technically). all that and she some how still is able to remember and repeat harm's name. i wish they would of got together alot sooner than the series finale..:(moreless
  • It was perfect. One of my favorite episodes.

Although this show has been off the air for several years now I just saw this episode for the first time today as a USA network re-run. I absolutely loved it. The flashbacks of Mac's session with the therapist made me cry, especially when she was speaking about Harriett's pregnancy and her disappointment about her own infertility. The title of the episode had me wondering before I watched it but it was perfectly chosen. However, I must say I was disappointed by the following episode because I thought this one was so pivotal and the next one didn't pick up there.moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Mac is taken into the ambulance the paramedic tries to calm her down. When Mac asks what he said, she sees her psychiatrist in the shape of the paramedic. The psychiatrist tells Mac to "embrace the lessons of every challenge and expect good from everything that seems bad", just like the man on the radio had been telling the lady on the radio, just before Mac crashed the car.

    • Goof: Col. Mackenzie gets into a car accident Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve) at 23:53 Zulu, the military equivalent of GMT. Then later when Harm is rushing to the hospital, it's said to be Dec. 24 at 01:11 Zulu. However, it should say 01:11 Zulu Dec. 25, since it's now the next day, Zulu time or otherwise.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Mac: It's hard to have a conversation about my life without talking about him.
McCool: Are the two of you involved?
Mac: In ways you can't imagine.
      McCool: Try me.
Mac: We've been dancing around a relationship for eight years.
McCool: Is he the guy you've been waiting for?
Mac: Oh, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've asked myself that question.

    • Mac: Dalton. A man I was seeing... was shot by a cop who was stalking me.
McCool: Did you say a 'cop'?
Mac: My life is a tabloid.

    • Man on radio: ...an inability to be with family and friends, unrealistic expectations.
Mac: (speaking to the radio) In other words, you have no idea!
Woman on radio: But what can I do?
Man on radio: Well, keep your expectations manageable, but most important, you need to trust in the way things work. Embrace the lesson of every challenge and expect good from everything that seems bad.
Mac: (angry at the man's advice) Don't buy it, it's bogus.
Man on radio: Enjoy your Christmas.
Mac: (still upset at the radio) Give me a break. (reaches for the radio to change channel and crashes her car into a tree)
